BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A car bomb at the Imam Ali Mosque in Najaf killed at least 17 people, including the Ayatollah Mohammad Baqir al-Hakim, the Shiite leader of the Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq, according to a Shiite spokesman.

So, walking around in these mosques with shoes on defiles them, but blowing people to bits outside them is O.K.? Posters on the previous thread are right; this isn't religious, so much as using religion to mask a power struggle. Seems like the "moderate" Shiite leaders better buy some guns.
