By LEO SHANE III NH Columbus Bureau ------------------------------------------------------------------------ COLUMBUS -- Democratic leaders want a major Republican fund-raiser blocked from becoming the state's new voting machines supplier, saying his presence puts in doubt the fairness of all Ohio elections.

Wally O'Dell, CEO of Diebold Inc., this week sent out letters to central Ohio Republicans asking them to raise $10,000 in donations in time for a Sept. 26 Ohio Republican Party event at his home.

The opposite.

His company... is one of three under consideration to supply new, electronic voting machines.

Dollars to donuts says that at least one of the other companies is major Democrat donor, but probably under the table, not above it.

One of the Demonrats favorite tactics. Accuse the opposition of doing what they either do (if they can get away with it), or desire to do. I just call it wickedness.

<> Can you clarify by what you mean by wickedness. the root of Wick is "to twist" (witch, wicken and the like all derive from this) so by wickedness do you mean , the dems wishing they could do what wally is doing. the republicans actually doing it or the whole unverifiable voting machine industry that eliminates the basic pricipals our republic is founded upon.

If you want honest elections you do NOT want those Deibold machines used. Do a google search or check slashdot. They have been examined and found seriously wanting. It would have been hard to make a voting system less secure than these things.

Like a stopped clock, the Demoncrats are right this time (and for the wrong reason of course).

Is it because this voting machine will tell the truth?

Nope. It's because they favor machines from the Honorable Richard Daley Memorial Voting Machine & Cemetary Census Co.

Relatively simple to keep Diebold honest, however, by independent auditing of the software by a bi-partisan committee of programmers.
