Sept 11th is on a thursday this year. HmmmmmmmmmmmmmNot only that but it falls exactly into the 2 week rotation, if you consider our blackout to be the first day.

"The alarm system was the only system that was not functioning."
Oh yes, the electric grid for 10 million people is also not working right now.

"There is not one private residence in the UK with air conditioning. Not one."
Er...sorry, but I have air-conditioning in my house, which is in the South West of England. It's true, however, that domestic air-conditioning in the UK is still a comparative rarity - really not needed - though now increasingly common in public buildings, trains, buses etc.

I used to mount 1/2" tapes on old Pertec tape drives to backup the files on our T-50 and T-200 "Disk Packs" on 990/12 minis ...
You and I have something in common then, in a former job, I used to back up BBN C70s and the NAS to tape. I can still hear the whirl of the rewind. Fun stuff.
BTW, I do get your point _Jim.

I would guess more than 10 if it is anything like we have here in our area. Little blackouts where the power does a hiccup. I'm talking about the magnitude of NY and London.

So am I ... and it is more than 10 ... it's usually over 30 so-called 'events' a year, events that meet a minimum criteria, events on a LARGE scale to be sure ... like 'load shedding' actions resulting in the reduction of over 100 megawatts or power ... events or occurrences which resulted in a continuous interruption for three hours or longer to over 50,000 customers, or more than 50% of the total customers [in an area] being served immediately prior to the interruption ... loss of loads from 200 to 300 MW depending on system size ...
What?
Do you think I just make this stuff up?

I'd like to alert all that a major blackout occurred in the Sydney CBD today, also attributed a problem with the rail network
