U.S. Officials: North Korea to Test Nuke Weapons (Drudge title)
Washington Post (AP Report) ^ | Aug. 28, 2003 | George Gedda

WASHINGTON - North Korea startled a six-nation conference in China on East Asian security by announcing its intentions to formally declare its possession of nuclear weapons and to carry out a nuclear test, an administration official said Thursday. North Korean Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Yong Il also told the gathering that his country has the means to deliver nuclear weapons, an apparent reference to the North's highly developed missile program.

Well, that's one way to get our troops out of museum guard duty in Baghdad.

Look for Japan to conduct a little provocative test (missle) of their own in the next week.

Isn't it odd that the anti-American left demands that we disarm our nukes yet they remain silent on the fact that N. Korea has them and is developing more?

I'll just say one thing for the record here... if North Korea tests this nuclear bomb, it's going to have truly grave implications for global security. While the left will equate North Korea and the USA, I can say pretty sincerely that we're never going to abuse our nuclear capabilities... we would only use nuclear force if absolutely necessary, as in WWII. Kim Jong Il, on the other hand, might not be so smart. We may just be on the verge of another Cold (hopefully not "hot") War. I truly hope that Bush, like Reagan, will boost America's arsenals and, if necessary, use preventive, preemptive military force to secure our nation.

Rest easy. Bush, in recognizing the risk North Korea posed to the US, has forward deployed most of the Army in Iraq. (sarcasm)

According to the administration official, China's delegate appeared visibly angry over Kim's statement but responded in a moderate tone

Sort of how one looks at one's dog when it misbehaves?

Kim said his country was maintaining this position because the United States clearly had no intention of abandoning its hostile policy toward North Korea, the U.S. official said.

Hostile policy? Yeah, right. I think that we've shown what we can do when we become "hostile." Our policy towards North Korea hardly qualifies...

Great picture! Looks like the lights go out right at the 38th Parallel. BTW, what's with all the lights on the Nile?

The liberals would respond with something like, "But as the world's only superpower, wouldn't it be wise of the U.S. to set an example and disarm?"

"If you Americans will disarm first, then I will do the same."
"Someday."
"Bwahahahahaha!"

"How do you like my hairdo?"

Meanwhile 9 out of 10 LW fruitloops find the phrase 'axis of evil' offensive when discussing North Korea.

"They live mainly along the banks of the Nile."

And apparently they all are taking a smoke break at the same time.

Seems logical.

Kim has another passion apart from running the isolationist communist nation: basketball. Please explain the rationale to support your theory that most of the Army is required to be forward deployed in Korea or its environs to remove the nuclear threat of NK. Enquiring minds want to know.

LOL The comment has a (sarcasm) following it. To belabor the obvious, my post was intended to recognize the stupidity of sending most of our forces to Iraq (a country which posed no threat to the US) while ignoring - yes, ignoring - North Korea which really does pose a threat to the US and happily exports weapons, probably including WMD, to anyone with the funds.

On the theory "inquiring minds" really don't stay current, I'll add that we've got almost half of the Army's brigades committed to Iraq.
