There's a George Bush in Baghdad, six weeks old and screaming in a crib

BAGHDAD, Iraq, Aug 28, 2003 (AP WorldStream via COMTEX) -- A Baghdad mother and father, to show their thanks to U.S. President George W. Bush for the overthrow of Saddam Hussein, have named their son after the American leader.

Had the couple had twin boys, they say, the would have named them George Bush and Tony Blair.

The new George Bush - probably the only one in Baghdad - was born six weeks ago to Nadia Jergis Mohammed, 34, and her husband Abdul Kader Faris, 41.

"I tell you all Iraqis hated Saddam's regime. It was only George Bush who liberated us, without him it wouldn't have happened. If he hadn't done it the sons of Saddam would have ruled us for years. He saved us from Saddam and that's why we named our son after him," Mohammed told Associated Press Television News.

George Bush screamed in his crib.

Baby Bush, born July 11, carries the full name George Bush Abdul Kader Faris Abed El-Hussein. He weighed 3.5 kilograms (7 pounds 11 1/2 ounces) at birth.

Two older brothers are named - more traditionally - Omar and Ali.

I want to see a pic of Baby Bush. LOL. I really do.

The best I could do on short notice was a Bush baby. ;^)

In spite of the AP's stupid headline, this just goes to show that President Bush is considered a hero by the Iraqi people.

I wish I knew how to get on the DU site and post this. Talk about having the RATs PO'ed!!!

If I remember correctly, many in Kuwait named their sons George Bush after the Gulf War. It's sad that that changed within a few years when people started naming their sons after Osama Bin Laden and proclaiming that the U.S. had abandoned them. Just another legacy of Bill Clinton.

I don't remember reading anything about Kuwaities holding Bin Laden as a hero. Do you have a source for this, please?

Like I said, I may have been wrong that they were naming their kids Osama. It was one of those news clips played in the weeks following 9/11.

Media bias:

The new George Bush - probably the only one in Baghdad...

The implication is that this family is one of the few grateful ones...

Thank you for the pings and the post. I love this story. Ignore my pinging you to the other post.

Do you think AP is hearing from "we the people"? "Joe", the 3RD ID soldier's phone call the other day to Rush was great - and heard by millions. When he called the press the "#1 enemy" and accused them of "aiding and abetting the enemy" I cheered.

AP and USA Today both have non-quagmire stories out re. Iraq today.

Progress.
