Arianna Huffington brushes her hair as she addresses San Francisco's Commonwealth Club of California. |
SAN FRANCISCO - Political columnist turned gubernatorial candidate Arianna Huffington swept through town today pledging to resolve the California's budget crisis by tinkering with the state's sacred tax cow, Proposition 13
``To stabilize our budget, we need to build a budget based on a more predictable revenue source -- namely property taxes,'' she told members of the Commonwealth Club. ``There, I said it, and what do you know? Lightning didn't strike me dead.''

I don't think that tinkering with Proposition 13 will be much of a worry for Arianna any time soon.... just a guess

I'm not sure if her tinkering with it is a very good idea. She might break a nail.

This is a trial balloon to see if the Right can be split along this issue. As I have said before, the Left figures to split the Right with Proposition 13. Interesting.

I sent her this letter, and will be freeping her soon:
Dear Miss Piggy,
How dare you say I cant drive my SUV but you can live in that 8,000 square feet mansion, fly in private jets, and live the highlife all while not paying your share of taxes! I make $50,000 a year and pay several times the taxes you pay.
The idea of borrowing against your house to pay your own corporation so you can deduct that expense sounds like a practice you would be against, dont you think? Do you have any idea how hypocritical you are? Not only is the right calling you an idiot, but now the left as well.
Why dont you turn your forum back on rather than being scared to face us riff raff. Also, do you really think in that silly head of yours that you will somehow connect with minorities? What the hell do you think you have in common with blacks? Hint :Nothing
Plan on seeing me protesting at your rallies asking these same very question.
See You Soon

A column in the Newark Star-Ledger a couple of weeks ago said that California property taxes were too low. They were compared to New Jersey taxes - which were 7 percent - which strikes me as being too high.
Ignoring the tax implications and inflation/appreciation, the present value of a 7 percent tax in perpetuity discounted at 8 percent is 85% of the value of the property.
We broke away from the British over a 10% tax two centuries ago. Perhaps another rebellion is now appropriate.
