WASHINGTON (CNN) --With one recent poll showing actor Arnold Schwarzenegger falling behind Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante in California's gubernatorial recall race, some top Republicans are urging other GOP candidates to drop out of the race.

Businessman Bill Simon, the GOP nominee against Gov. Gray Davis last year, dropped out over the weekend. But Republican state Sen. Tom McClintock says he's in the race for good. McClintock, in Sacramento, California, spoke with CNN's Judy Woodruff on Tuesday. The following is an edited transcript.

Illegal Immigration: "I would never stand in the way of any child going to school, whether he or she is here legally or illegally, it does not matter."

So much for Arnold's false claim of supporting Proposition 187.

Why must one consider a person a liar, absent any proof?

Better to pose your question to the Schwarzenegger bashers who run around blithely calling him a liar absent any proof.

Indeed, even when presented with contravening proof rendering their point false they persist.

If Cruz wins, so be it. Jimmy Carter's win in '76 paved the way for the Reagan Revolution. In retrospect, the defeat of the liberal and inept Ford was a blessing in disguise.

I see what you are saying. The world of politics is odd inasmuch as defeat can be the mother to victory and vice versa.

Let us look at a concrete example: Without the victory of Clinton, would we have as Republican a House and Senate? No, of course not. Many of those victories on our side were a direct reaction to the disgust people felt at Clinton.

But, can we call the 1992-2000 period good for us? NO! Clinton still passed MANY socialist and fascist laws, and we are no longer nearly as free, nor nearly as in-control of our money.

So, as much as I respect you, ambrose, I have to reject your thesis. If we allow a liberal to win, we LOSE ground in the fight for our freedom -- no matter what the backlash may be.

I traded Rick Perry (Gov - TX) for Grayout Doofus when I moved here last Fall, and saw the ENTIRE GOP list go down in flames.

Ouch.

I feel for ya, brother.

Why are the out-of-state people sometimes the most obnoxious ones?

Because some of us are from Noo Yawk. (jostles you with elbow trying to get by)

"I would never stand in the way of any child going to school, whether he or she is here legally or illegally, it does not matter."

Please explain how that is supporting Proposition 187.

can't win=can't win; A vote for McC is a vote for Cruz. Deal with it.

Arnold cannot bring taxes down by pushing socially liberal causes. Low taxes and social liberalism are mutually exclusive.

It's the old libertarian con: "What's mine is mine and what's yours is mine."

A vote for Arnold is a vote for higher taxes and social liberalism.

Get used to it.

I don't bother explaining anything to you anymore Roscoe. You are impervious to fact and reason.

And no, I am not ducking your question. You deal dishonestly with issues and I just don't care to waste my time talking to you.

"Maybe if we can help each other understand the reasons why gun violence happens, we can get more guns off the streets and help prevent future tragedies."

Who said that? Cruz or Cruz-lite?

WOODRUFF: Well, does that mean under no circumstances you're going to pull out?
MCCLINTOCK: That's precisely what it means, Judy. I don't know how else I can put it.

What a piece of excrement. "Under no circumstances" includes if it becomes abvious the GOP will lose. Who still supports this jerk?

Are you implying Schwarzenegger has no political experience?

No. Please read what I wrote again. He has no experience dealing with a legislature. Whoever becomes governor of California must deal with the California legislature to bring state government costs under control. If a (R) governor is elected, it will probably be a hostile (D) legislature.

That is incorrect.

Please specify details.

And might I add, you sound quite beside yourself and bordering on hysteria in your rantings that exaggerate or misrepresent facts. Calm down.

I'm fine, thanks. Please direct your attention towards the Arnold-bots who "feel" Arnold will be a good Republican candidate, or think that he "seems" as if he will lower taxes. They've posted replies in this thread. (Obligatory sheesh...)

And why has "Hollywood liberal", Rob Lowe been supporting President Bush for months? Hm?

Alright, fine, I can take it back since I really did not investigate his views much. The other stuff stands.

Having a seat at the table sure beats sitting in a phone booth.

Even if you're sitting with an illegal immigrant, an abortion doctor, and a gay couple and their adopted kid?
