Some "protection". Like suicide bombers care? (Like UN will not allow virgins in hell for them?) What a typical bureaucratic idiotic joke. Dismantle UN!
To: dennisw
Let me get this straight -- The UN can kill, bomb, plot and maim; but anyone defending themselves from UN "activity" is a war criminal?

If Jews are attacked, it is not a war crime.
The law will soon be expanded so that an attack on anyone (progressives, etc) who espouses the UN ideology will be a war crime.

Like suicide bombers care? I'll bet they're shaking in their sandals. Notice how quickly and vehemently the UN reacts when it's their soup that's being pissed in.

Why not? Logically this is the next step. As some would say this would make the bulldozer operator a war criminal. The one that pushed as Rachel Corrie dared him.

There you go - push some more paper at 'em and it will all go away. Wonderful way to fight a war and rule the earth.

My fist impression of this is that it is worth a sad giggle.
Amazing how anti-terrorist the U.N. gets when suddenly THEY find themselves in the Islam-o-Nazi gunsight.

Yes, but I'd be willing to bet that the first people accused of such "war crimes" are going to be Israelis or Americans, and not Islamic terrorists, who will get a pass...

Easy solution to this 'problem', not that anyone will undertake it, of course.
Simply acknowledge formally what has been factually true for 30-odd years: the presence of U.N. personnel in any war zone itself constitutes a war crime, in that more and more people will be killed simply BECAUSE of their presence, and, as a contributing factor, their incompetence and lack of touch w/reality.
Not holding my breath waiting for this empirically accurate viewpoint to gain wide currency.

The resolution stresses that "attacks knowingly and intentionally directed against" humanitarian or peacekeeping personnel "constitute war crimes" It's a war crime to attack them, but ok to butcher Sudanese Christians or Jews with terror bombs.
The UN is a pack of animals.

"'We make this very hard choice that we deplore that we have to make, but the higher aim of really providing conditions of exercise of responsibilities for the Security Council on the protection of humanitarian workers merit the sacrifices and difficult decisions made,' said Ambassador Adolfo Aguilar Zinser. "
Man they really are a sorry bunch, a few words are suddenly going to protect all those workers and make everything alright? A stupid meaningless resolution is somehow miraculously going capture those responsible? Once again the UN lives upto its name... Useless Nations

This one act has repealed all protections due soldiers as prisoners of war. Say goodbye to the concept of even limited civilized warfare.
