Richard Ziser to challenge Harry Reid (D-NV) for senate seat!
Posted on 08/26/2003 5:19:25 PM PDT by Richard-SIA
Now that Jim Gibbons has confirmed he is not running for senate, it is open season on Sierra Harry! A strong presence by conservatives at his announcement would probably help this guy get his campaign in motion.
From the e-mail alert I received this afternoon.

I thought you'd want to know right away that Richard Ziser, co-chairman of NCC, is taking on the Senate race challenging Harry Reid. We would be well-served to have Richard representing us. I'm sending along the information on his announcements in Las Vegas and Reno. It would be great if you could come. Best to arrive about 15 minutes early if possible.

And without more than a couple of seats, and without being able to limit filibusters, having the Senate is worth a bucket of warm piss.

nccmail@earthlink.net At this early stage I would support almost anyone who has the brass to run against Harry Reid.
All I know at this time is that he is a conservative, and a supporter of our RKBA, which Reid is not!

60/40 was never a very real possibility anyway. But there's still a long way to go before Nov 04.

Rich Ziser's group pushed through the ballot initiative to ban gay marriage last year, so he gets major props for that. Unfortunately there's a good chance he'll be the only pro-lifer on the ballot.
Dean Heller and probably Brian Krolicki are running, plus developer Jack something. Jack could be conservative, and Heller hasn't had to take too many policy stands as sec state.
It's way too premature to think we don't have a shot at this seat when thrice-statewide-elected Heller is running.

No but 57 is still quite possible. 54-55 is more likely.

The way I have it:
First Tier: southern 4 (Carolinas, GA, FL)
Daschle Tier: SoDak, Arkansas (Huckabee)
Second Tier: Wisconsin, Nevada, Washington
Depends how it goes: Cali, NoDak

Our vulnerable Senate seats are AK, IL, and possibly PA.

I agree, Reid isn't THAT popular in Nevada, Heller could give him a run for his money.
PS: are sure Heller is going to run?

I'd bet Heller will run. He's gotta be looking at 2006 and realizing there's no hope for him there statewide. Ensign and Gibbons are both interested in the governorship (one will run Guv, the other Senate), and he can't beat either, so it's either Congress some day or Senate now.
He's going to DC to talk it over with Allen.
He could probably take Gibbons' seat in Congress when that comes open, but I don't know that a losing campaign in 2004 would do anything but increase his profile for 2006 should Gibbons run for Guv.

Yes it's a win-win for Heller to run in 2004.

I thought I read that the GOP would not challenge him.......Reid is
a@#.

Yes it's a win-win for Heller to run in 2004. Of course it was a similar situation with Gibbons, and I thought he'd run too :(
I'm looking forward to a Dean Heller campaign. He's got a fun side to him -- check out his bio.

Huckabee in Arkansas could not win anything now
and his popularity is only dropping.
So that one can be forgotten about unless
someone else is found to run.

Harry Reid isn't out of trouble yet. Secretary of State Dean Heller is going to travel to Washington to check fund-raising prospects. Heller has a base in Carson City, which usually leans Democratic, and has been elected to statewide office three times by landslide margins. If Heller runs, than Reid's seat is still a potential pick-up.
