It appears that sane parents must now put instructions in their wills about what kind of person(s) will ever be able to adopt their children should something happen to the parents. With all due respect, sane parents have ALWAYS put it in their will who will get custody of their children in case of parental death.

I did not say WHO. I said "what kind."
Imagine a scenario where your "whos" are all gone OR dramatically changed in personality AFTER your demise.
Other that that, do you think all the parents of orphans through the years have been irresponsible people? For that matter, how can an orphan EVER happen, given extended family and all.

I'm glad you clarified that because I thought it was just me. My wife and I chose who would get the kids in the event of our death...though I would hardly characterize my wife and I as sane.+
