Interesting, I thought the only fossils from New Jersey were Bon Jovi and Bruce!

Your explaination is very interesting, I am a Heavy/Highway Contractor in the NY/NJ area.
I have moved a lot of the New Brunswick Shales, and the geology has always intersted me, from the shales of Central NJ to the sands & clays of the shore to the granite & gniess & trap rock in the north.
You are the first person to explain it clearly.
Could you recomend any text for further information or possably a geolegy course for busy contractors?

. This thing is smooth and, as you can see, of cylindrical shape. PHILLIPS: Just a minute! Something's happening! Ladies and gentlemen, this is terrific! This end of the thing is beginning to flake off! The top is beginning to rotate like a screw! The thing must be hollow! VOICES: She's movin'! Look, the darn thing's unscrewing! Keep back, there! Keep back, I tell you! Maybe there's men in it trying to escape! It's red hot, they'll burn to a cinder! Keep back there. Keep those idiots back!

Living in N. California, I just laugh at earthquake stories when they are below 5 on the scale.
Actually thanks to Ragtime Cowgirl and a few other freepers, as usual we have a lot more on the current actions in Iraq since the war than any other news service.
Ask to be on RTCG's ping list.

This is why we don't get too excited about a little 3 something tremor. Shown below is a typical 24 hour day in the shaking land of fruits and nuts in Grayland.

Saves time and money re buying a kitchen mixer. We just pour the martini and let Ma al a Nature shake it for us.

Hey!
I was lurcking when this happened, I know its just a 3.8 but it was not far from where I live. It was very strange to have my chair move without my help! I understand in Milford NJ the shaking was enough to knock things off shelves, quite an event for us earthquake novices!

I'm talking about the false rift between the Watchung Mountains and the Atlantic Highlands. I know that things get more interesting outside of that area. Yes, there are some fossils here and there but in the big scheme of things, it is pretty boring.
