This is probably true. We could be so utterly screwed if a moral pygmy like Howard Dean got his facistic, grubby hands on the Patriot Act. I hope Hatfill wins and I hope The Patriot Act is thoroughly rewritten. I understand why it had to be passed, I just think it either needs a sunset provision or a less panicky rewrite.

About time! They've been doing a Richard Jewell on this guy for far too long. If any evidence existed, they'd have found it and charged him by now - NOBODY covers their tracks that well. They just don't have anyone else to look at, so they keep tormenting him.

The true test, is that now that it looks like Hatfill was innocent, what is going to be the government's response? Are they just going to settle out of court and let it drop, are they going to come out and say "we were wrong, oh and sorry about hitting you with an FBI car". At the least he deserves a public apology and for somebody to be held accountable.
If they don't, leading the public/press to Hatfill looks like a smoke screen to cover the fact they couldn't find whoever - maybe they thought it'd buy them some time, they could catch the culprit(s) and then come out and say "oh, sorry, here's the real culprit(s)".
