This is the United STATES of America and we are a mobile society. Why, five years ago we had just put our Wisconsin home up for sale (it sold in 5 days) and returned to our beloved Arizona. Twelve years before that we had made the reverse move. Why, any one of us non-Californians today could have a job transer there. In fact, the family of one of my daughter's classmates just transferred out there last year.
In addition, many of us have family or friends there and we care about them. My family, (technically my husband's family), for instance, have relatives living in California and we like to visit them and your state---it's only a day's drive for us.
Okay, a valid point, though a person's more likely to get transferred to Houston, TX than CA these days. Up here in Sonoma County, the telecom industry is still hemorrhaging employees at an amazing rate. Granted, much of that isn't Davis' fault, but he certainly didn't help businesses here during tough times.
