Merchants have no country. The mere spot they stand on does not constitute so strong an attachment as that from which they draw their gains.

I just want to highlight this quote one more time for all the Buchanan Brigaders on this thread who think we evil "RINOs" are being unfair in our claims of what is really deep down beneath a lot of the rantings on trade that he and his crowd vomit.

"Merchants"? So that's what we're calling them now? Classic.

Whatever stereotypes Jefferson may or may not have had about Jews is manifestly not an issue here. Gentiles and Jews alike, the merchants are selling out their country. "And money is the solution to everything!"

I would point out that those who are arguing for our current trade envirornment are arguing for teh Uraguay Round priciples which include the stated objective of transfering wealth and industrial production from rich nations to poor nations by the lowering of traiffs more in teh rich nations than in the poor nations. This is the stated goal of the current trade structure. It does seem to be working and the defenders of it refuse to recognize it as being a socialist venture from the start.

Now, I realize it is far easier to call names than it is to engage in discussion with facts and numbers but I would recommend teh later bgecuase emotional arguments will only result in Democrats winning elections.
