has raised concerns over VoIP emergency 911 services.
9 times out of 10 people that use VoIP have a phone line from the local ISP going into their house. That provides the 911 service.
If a person goes through an outfit like Covad for their DSL line then maybe the phone companies should charge Covad a small $3 fee per month for 911 service. Maybe that's already done.

Phone companies are notorious enemies of true capitalism. They want a free telecommunications market about as much as OPEC wants a free market in oil.
The problem with governemnt regulation is that the richest corporations always buy the most government for themselves.
