"If it's a company operating as a phone company, then there are requirements they must follow," said Beth Bosch

Why?

Screw the government! Clever programmers (hello, Kazaa?) will get on this if Big Stupid Government keeps pushing.

has raised concerns over VoIP emergency 911 services.

9 times out of 10 people that use VoIP have a phone line from the local ISP going into their house. That provides the 911 service.

If a person goes through an outfit like Covad for their DSL line then maybe the phone companies should charge Covad a small $3 fee per month for 911 service. Maybe that's already done.

Phone companies are notorious enemies of true capitalism. They want a free telecommunications market about as much as OPEC wants a free market in oil.

The problem with governemnt regulation is that the richest corporations always buy the most government for themselves.
