What? You mean PJB missed the entirely obvious lesson learned here at home from 9-11? That we need to take the fight to the terrorists? What? You mean PJB can't understand that attracting all the terror scum of the world to one place to face our military (rather than our civilians in tall buildings) is a GOOD thing for the US? I am amazed.

I think the recent events are tragic -- but I think they also point to a new hope. I think of Japan's kamikazi attacks in WWII. When that war started, Japan had some good planes (the Zero) and many excellent pilots. They fought the way great nations fight. But at the end, when it was clear to all they they would lose, and lose badly, they reverted to a wide variety of suicide attacks. Suicide planes, suicide subs, suicide peasants. They did it because they knew that their cause was lost.

Recent events in the Middle East, not just the suicide attacks, but also the willful destruction of the Iraqi reconstruction, tell me that the terrorists have given up hope. They lost. They know it.

Their final defeat will still involve a lot of pain for us -- but even they know that the war is over and their cause is lost.
