Hiram Johnson confronted the same problem; he was also a political maverick," McClintock said. "He realized he had to take his case directly to the people, and he did."
If state lawmakers won't curb their spending, McClintock says he'll take his case for reform directly to the people too.
"Ultimately, the governor, whoever he is, will have to rally the people for the fundamental reforms needed to change our state," he said. "The Constitution gives the people the ultimate authority."

Tom McClintock is definitely on a roll. He is one of the three top candidates who could win on Oct. 7th. And as a true conservative, he's won the hearts of the California Republican Party grassroots. This is probably my favorite quote about him as a candidate that personifies why he's out of fashion in this state. His time may yet come.
"I'm a Jeffersonian Republican," he said, "which means I believe the fundamental responsibility of a government is to preserve the liberty of the people, rather than to abridge that freedom for whatever fancies the government in power develops."

I am a tad confused... haven't you been pumping Arnie on the other threads?

This is what "success" looks like. For "failure,"
see Tom McClintock.

Don't be confused. My head says Arnold's probably going to win. My heart's definitely with Tom. If he DOES break out, I do plan to vote for him!

I haven't read the article because I won't register on the LATIMES site, but if it a positive article about McClintock, the question must be asked, "Why is the LATimes writing a positive article about a staunch Republican?"

Same here, and I'd far rather see positive stories about Tom than negative ones about Arnold. Thanks for the post.
To: dawn53
Its easy: they want to bring out the Democratic faithful to help get Large Breasts elected Governor.

Ah, the old divide and conquer on the part of the LA Times. Wonder what Grayout has on the publisher?

Couldn't have anything to do with keeping the Republican vote splintered, could it?
Bustamonte is at 35%, Arnold at 22%, without the backers of McClintock, @ 12 percent and Ueberroth @ 7 percent, according to the latest LA Times poll.

Pravda on the Pacific ran this pole after trashing Schwarzenegger for seven days for having no plan. During that seven days Schwarzenegger had been meeting with business leaders, economists, academics and politicans, discussing the state's fiscal standing. Of course the LA Times didn't report that.
Just a day or two before his Wednesday Press conference, the LA Times ran the poll. Schwarzenegger was known to be at his lowest point at that moment.
The Times didn't bother to run another poll after the Press Conference. They'll wait until just before his next public appearance.
Frankly, I don't know what to make of those polls. They may be accurate. Then again they may bear very little on real numbers.
Pravda on the Pacific knows what they are doing. They are sandbagging and it's not doing anyone any favors. Well I should say it's not doing anyone but Davis any favors.

Of course. The other day their editors huffily told Schwarzenneger voters to vote "NO" on the recall and to vote for their candidate in 2006. The LAT is four square behind Gray Davis and they're not hiding their bias. Not in the least.

I sometimes think this stuff is bad, but I guess Hurst was a real son of a gun in his day. Then there's Chicago in the old days. I'm probably too thin skinned, but he really angers me.

Pravda on the Pacific ran this pole after trashing Schwarzenegger for seven days for having no plan. Indeed. The pollsters may have an agenda: get the democrat elected at all costs, so any trends or extenuating data for the candidates on the right could be conveniently left out.
Whatever the case, it's good to see Simon votes coalescing into McClintock's support base in these numbers, if my assumptions are correct about their uptick. It's also good to see Schwarzenegger answering some of Limbaugh's questions. Righ t now, I'm optimistic: with all of the candidates on the right, the one that settles out ahead in October can gain the "outsider" votes who might have gone to the Democrat if they had picked a less entrenched pol than Bustamante. Let's all be careful to keep positive about all the conservative candidates now. It's more important than ever. The final result may surprise us, and I don't want to be eating my words when I go down and vote.
By the way, I keep thinking polls are more important than ever in this election. We need a conservative poll source. Can FOX news be of any assistance?
P.S. Here's an op/ed from McClintock's website to read: Gilroy Dispatch Columnist Cynthia Walker Endorses Tom McClintock for Governor
Quote:
Then Assemblyman McClintock began to speak, and I was bowled over. He was smart, articulate, wryly humorous, honest, incisive, and to the point. Ive voted McClintock on every possible occasion ever since.
When was the last time California was governed by someone who could be described like that?

Couldn't have anything to do with keeping the Republican vote splintered, could it? Plus, it makes them appear "balanced." A two-fer.

Well the LA Times has really screwed with your mind. Remember, this poll was take on Monday or Tuesday last week. Simon didn't withdraw until Friday.
What they've done is make it so these numbers are of no use to anyone, if you're trying to guage what's really going on. I wouldn't be surprised to see those votes go to McClintock, but they haven't shown up yet in polls, because none have been take in about six or seven days.

I'd rant against Admin Mod for not asking me first but I'll bite my tongue; I don't want to get banned from FR.
