After strangling pedophile priest John Geoghan, neo-Nazi Joseph Druce stomped and pummeled the defrocked clergyman's lifeless body, a prison union official said. Druce followed Geoghan into his cell after the two returned their lunch trays Saturday and somehow jammed shut its electronic door, today's Washington Post reports.
Once inside, he bound and gagged the 68-year-old ex-priest before strangling him with a bed sheet, said Robert Brouillette, an executive of the Massachusetts Correction Officers Federated Union.
Then, before correction officers could pry open the door, Druce, 37, repeatedly leapt from atop the bed in the cell onto Geoghan's body and struck it with his fists, he told the Post.
"It was pretty clear when they got in there that [Geoghan] wasn't going to wake up," said Brouillette.
Only one guard was on duty in the protective custody wing of the Souza-Baranowski prison in Shirley at the time, he said.
Druce, who is serving a life term for strangling and mutilating a gay bus driver who picked him up hitchhiking in 1988 harbors a searing hatred of homosexuals and was molested as a child, his family claims.
His estranged father, Dana Smiledge, said he had no problem with his son's actions. "I'm glad he did it," Smiledge told the Boston Herald. "[Geoghan] was an idiot."
But Smiledge did question why prison authorities allowed his son near Geoghan, who was serving a nine-year sentence for fondling a little boy. Druce grew up in a broken home and had been sexually abused by men as a young boy, Smiledge said. Geoghan was accused of molesting more than 130 children during his 35 years in the priesthood.
Smiledge said Druce, who changed his name in jail, no longer has contact with his family. "I did everything I could for years to help him," he told the Boston Globe. "He deserves to stay [in prison]."
Prosecutors plan to charge Druce after an autopsy on Geoghan today confirms strangulation as the cause of death.

Am I wrong for not caring? I hope not, for I couldn't care less, either.

I am pleased that this child rapist who destroyed so many young lives went out violently and painfully. He was evil incarnate. May he rot in hell with all other child molesters.

My point proven.
You wouldn't feel that way if you thought child molesters were being properly punished in the first place, instead of coddled, covered up for, protected, and released back into society to do it again...

Cardinal Law is an upright guy!
"Cardinal Law said he had no memory of reading a series of letters from clergy and parishioners, warning that Geoghan was a paedophile and questioning why he was being moved from parish to parish.
"At one point, the cardinal was shown a letter, dated September 1984, from the aunt of seven boys Geoghan had admitted abusing several years earlier, warning that the priest had been associating with boys again.
"Under questioning, the cardinal identified his own initials on the letter's envelope, forwarding it to his then deputy, Bishop Thomas Daily, with a note in his own handwriting reading: "Urgent, please follow through." The cardinal said he had no memory of the aunt's letter "but, obviously, I saw the envelope".
"He further denied any recollection of a letter from one of his own bishops, John D'Arcy, questioning why Geoghan had been reassigned to the new parish of Weston, given his "history of homosexual involvement with young boys".
"According to church files, in 1984 Geoghan was approved for transfer to a fresh parish after being cleared in a letter from his own family doctor."

Not to be morbid...but all I'm thinking is: "justice is served".
They ought to bring back public hangings for child molesters and rapists anyway. (x42 included)

Not to be morbidI'll be a little morbid

bound, gagged, strangled, and stomped by a fellow inmate..... The fellow inmate, Joseph L. Druce, then jumped from Geoghan's bed onto Geoghan's chest at least twice,

Next time you have to make a life or death decision on the job let me know. Good point. It's pretty easy to "Monday Morning Quarterback" the decisions made by police officers and military commanders. It's not so easy when you're trying to make a split second decision with only half of the facts available.
I guess is pretty much the same when you're in the Corrections field. It's pretty difficult to predict the actions of someone who has proven to be unpredictable to begin with.
How do you protect someone in an institution full of murderers, rapists, and perverts without isolating everyone?

And anyone wanna bet that when something like this happens on a warden or guard's watch, they'll face zero personal liability? Let the keepers face potential lawsuits for rapes and murders, and their occurance will drop to zero real fast.

What pisses me off is that he prolly never thought what he was doing was in the least bit wrong.Sociopaths with robes and tall hats. Heck, for that matter, almost all the non-molester Cardinals or Bishops I've seen on TV don't seem to get it. More concerned about self-preservation than anything else. The only thing named "Bishop" that has made any sense to me is residing in Africa, and they are Anglicans. Pretty ironic, considering how messed up that continent is. Time to do a few imports.

JMO....my idea of "properly punished" for convicted child molestors means death, preferably with a long rope and a tall tree. The reality of our current justice system dictates that this never happens, especially in Massachusetts, and pedophile recitivism will ensure that these released predators are allowed to prey upon more victims. I shed no tears for this beast. He'll have no more victims, and without a spiritual epiphany and repentance, he'll be spending eternity in a very dark, hot place. I'll only be surprised if Massachusetts doesn't charge his killer under a hate-crime statute.

Geoghan was accused of molesting more than 130 children during his 35 years in the priesthood. The only tragedy of this story.

Won't anyone officially say Geoghan got his just deserts? Live by child rape, die by a child raped.
