McClintock Facing Republican Threats?
Belly of the Beast Blog ^ | August 24, 2004 | Eric Hogue

Now that Bill Simon has left the building, State Senator Tom McClintock currenlty has the 'only growing campaign'. I'm reading the LA Times article on Simon's departure this morning and I find this nugget of political muscle.

Perot was an empty suit, just like Arnold.

Well, if you're completely ignorant about him you would say that. Here's some smart's for you:

"Mr. Schwarzenegger's biography exemplifies the American dream. Determined to make it in the Hollywood movies he saw in his native Austria, he first spent countless hours training to become a world champion bodybuilder in an unheated gym in his parent's home. At age 21, he came to America in 1968 with little money and even less command of English. A natural capitalist, he bought up office buildings and apartment complexes before he ever made a film. His business empire now includes shopping malls, a Boeing 747 he leases to an airline, and a large chunk of Santa Monica real estate. He took evening courses in business at UCLA, and earned a bachelor's degree in business by mail from the University of Wisconsin at Superior. Over the course of several years he wooed and won Maria Shriver. He became the highest-paid actor in the history of movies, pulling down $30 million for this summer's "Terminator 3."

His charitable activities include a foundation that provides after-school programs for 200,000 kids and served as the inspiration for Proposition 49--an initiative he sponsored last year to expand after-school programs to every school in California. In a stroke of political genius, the initiative didn't raise taxes or cut any other program. Its funding mechanism only kicks in when economic growth naturally increases state revenues. Proposition 49 carried 50 out of the state's 53 congressional districts, winning endorsements from both Rep. Chris Cox, an Orange County Republican, and Rep. Henry Waxman, a Hollywood Democrat.
...
Bill Saracino, a former head of Gun Owners of California, believes that when it comes to conservatives evaluating Mr. Schwarzenegger, "the glass is half full or way more." He notes that Mr. Schwarzenegger has opposed strict gun controls and contributed to several free-market think tanks. He will no doubt make overtures to social conservatives." WSJ excerpt

He's surrounded himself with a very savy team, something that real leaders who are secure in themselves ( like Reagan ) do.

Sounds like a real "do-nothing" empty suit type to me /sarcasm

Yes, that is where he should be directing his criticism...against Davis and Bustamante.

McClintock is the Perot of this election at this point and is being a useful idiot for the other side.

Or is he being a "conservative with conservative values" and is fighting a cause for what is right for California and not a cause for the party?

Refresh my memory if you can; but, when was political thought in this country, retsricted to republican and democrat perspectives? Moreover, when were Floridians granted voting rights in California elections?

That's cute, but of course you did'nt have one word to say about the relevant parts.

Plus hey, don't knock the body-building. It takes a tremendous amount of hard work and self-dicipline to be world class in that arena.

"He needs to "grow up", stop being so selfish and self-centered, and realize that. Simon's stature went up 50 points in my eyes."

Fighting for what you believe in is being selfish? Running on principle is self-centered? Refusing to bow before millionare star power is egocentric? Sad day in politics when those who surrender are looked upon as heroes...

Has that not already been done through the "recall dictate" already?

You've got that backwards. As Jim Robinson himself pointed out, Schwarzenegger is the Perot in this race.

I've said what I had to say. You can vote however you choose. Vote for your mailman if you like, or your local dog catcher. I don't care. But one thing is certain: You will never -- in this lifetime or any other -- have an opportunity to address Tom McClintock as "Governor."

Were there any?

Hell, let's make him king.

Well hello yourself. Who’s asking for life to be fair? I hear a lot of complaining from Arnold supporters asking that Tom should withdraw. It seems to me they’re the ones asking for special treatment. Well sometimes your boy doesn’t win the race. If Arnold is so great then feel free to vote for him.

In May 1995 Tom McClintock was working on this document detailing his proposals to save the State of California over 11 billion dollars. What was Arnold doing?

If you wish to educate yourself more on his positions then go here. There are lots to see.

No. There is a still a vote on the ballot if the recall should be done.

Part two of the question is who should succeed Davis IF the recall passes.

Prepare to get whacked on the shins by the Schwarzenpubbies.

I am not a Schwarzenpubbies (cool nickname), but I do have a problem with McClintock. My problem with Tom McClintock is that he is a professional politician and never worked a day in his life outside of government service. The day he graduated from college he worked for a political hack, then ran for office a couple of years later. Once in office he never turned back, he has been living his life off of sweat of taxpayers and donors ever since.
