Abso bleepin lutely.

The L.A. Times even got Bustamente into their headline the morning after Arnold's incredible announcement. The L.A. Slimes is so far up Cruz's butt that it makes a nice paper hat for him. I would like to see how the question was worded.

I hope even Californians are smart enough not to believe the Los Angeles Times.

Believe it.

Dems have snookered Republicans here over and over for the past near decade.

The Dems have held solidarity and it looks like they will vote as a bloc.

How we know McClintock only gets half.

I predict that if Arnold stays in.
McClintock will get at least a third of
Arnold's support to switch to him maybe
a lot more than that.

Simon people are all going to McClintock.
Might as well think of McClintock as being 18
or better because some of undecided were undecided
between McClintock and Simon.

McClintock will soon be in the 20s.

Let's make a deal, all you people who are saying "Tom is surging; Arnold should drop out."

Or a couple of deals.

First, knock of the nonsense about Arnold dropping out "just because." Barring a major mistake, he isn't going to drop out until shortly before the election. The deal is, the Schwarz supporters will not call McC some sort of traitor for continuing in the race, as he has every right to do.

Second, and more importantly, when it's two weeks to go, we all agree to get behind one GOP candidate IF that candidate has more than 30% more support in reliable polls than the other. This goes both ways. If Schwarz fall behind McClintock by 30%, no doubt we'll vote Tom. Question is, is it vice versa? Or is it no deal?

Without posting the raw data, questions, order of questions, margins of error and all other pertinent information on how the poll was actually conducted, it's excrement.

My personal opinion, is that Schwarzenegger will win, simply because of name recognition, financial ability to stomp Davis and Bustamonte from an advertising perspective, and the fact that he is dead-set against tax increases or the abolishment of Prop. 13.

I equally believe that McClintock, while he may be technically the better candidate (i.e., by having political experience), he will lose. Not that many people (outside the hard right) know he his is, nor care. He has (effectively) no name-recognition with the moderates or leftists. And when the moderates and leftists do find out what he's about, they'll never vote for him, anyway... So any way you slice it, McClintock will never sit in the Governors' chair.

Keep in mind (before the flaming starts) that I believe McClintock would be a much better man for the job... But I'd rather have 50% of what I want (Schwarzenegger) that 100% of what I don't want (Bustamonte).

According to an AP account of the LA Times poll, only 801 individuals were polled.

ONLY 801 likely voters were polled with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points!

This is not enough people polled to obtain any kind of reliable results. This poll is meaningless and in no way deserves the national and statewide attention it is receiving. Also, I haven't seen any information regarding where this poll was conducted.

I don't know if that is reported in this LA Times article because I did not care to sign in to read the article. Here is the AP article on FR:

Amen! Haven't you Californians seen what Cruz will do to your state if he wins? He PROMISES to increase taxes, which have already chased business out of the state. At least Arnold won't do everything in his power to destroy CA. He is infintely better than Bustamonte. And yes, McClintock is the best person for CA but he can't possibly win in a far-left state.

Call me overly optimistic, but I'm not sure Bustamante is going to get 40%. With a long alphabetically scrambled list of canidates, I think more Rats then Pubbies are going to do a Di-Fi on question two.

Will anyone be running attack ads on Bustamante?

Might be more effective to attack one of the nobody Democrats on the ballot in the last coupe of weeks, to confuse the idiot Rat lemmings.

McClintock going to pass Arnold up before October 7. A vote for Arnold is the wasted vote.

Talk is cheap. I'll bet you hard money all of your (delusional) predictions are wrong.

How about you just wait and see how McClintock
campaign is going.

He is moving up and Arnold zooming down.

Arnold had Arnold mania is over 10 points behind.
The voters just are not going to elect him.

If Arnold was going win off name ID and etc...

he should be way ahead not behind.

And his negatives are going through the roof.

Arnold won't win. McClintock really has the
better chance he does not have Arnold negatives
and has a credible argument for why he should governor.

Arnold only argument for being governor is that
his ego needs to be feed.

The point the only arugment Arnold fans have for
voting for him is the polls.

And the polls are going south for him.

And if you face reality you would see there
is no way Arnold going to do anything but lose ground.
The attacks on Arnold have not really even begun.
And if you look at the internals Arnold's negatives
are already approaching 50%.

Thus, the one argument for voting for Arnold is
collapsing and is going to finished before October 7.
So you should spend you time helping McClintock
get in there.

What was a 45% margin between Arnold and McClintock
has in less than two weeks become 10%.

And Simon is out his will all go to McClintock.
So its happening!

As difficult as this may be to believe, there is actually a world OUTSIDE of Free Republic, in in THAT world, Arnold has not yet even BEGUN to soar - up, up, UP...
Check out the "reaction of the masses" at Arnold's FIRST PUBLIC APPEARANCE since his announcement as a candidate for Governor - in the (relatively) conservative Orange County city of Huntington Beach:

Schwarzenegger Gets Hero's Welcome in Surf City

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (Reuters) - Arnold Schwarzenegger received a hero's welcome in this beach town on Friday, thrilling hundreds of swimsuit-clad admirers and winning endorsements for his gubernatorial bid from a Republican congressman and key fund-raisers.

Wading into throngs of cheering supporters in Southern California's Huntington Beach -- known as Surf City, California -- Schwarzenegger made like a veteran politician, shaking hands, kissing babies and posing for photographs.

He ducked into two restaurants and a surf shop, saying he had been talking to the owners about "the burden they go through every day running a business in California."

"Wait until October 7, we're going to turn this mess around," the candidate said, referring to the date of the recall election.

A Los Angeles Times Poll released on Friday showed voters were nearly evenly split on whether to recall California Gov. Gray Davis, who is a Democrat.

Schwarzenegger is the front-running Republican candidate.

U.S. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, a conservative Republican who strolled down Main Street with Schwarzenegger, said he endorsed the actor because Schwarzenegger was the strongest candidate, and his beliefs most closely mirrored those of Rohrabacher.

California Republicans, however, have begun to fret that with three other well-known conservatives in the race, the party may be too fragmented to win the governor's seat and could hand the race to leading Democrat, Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante.

The influential Lincoln Club of Orange County, a Republican fund-raising organization, called on Republican challengers Bill Simon, Peter Ueberroth and Tom McClintock to drop out.

"Each is a noble and principled man and would distinguish the Republican Party," said club President Tracy Price. "However, in our view, they can't win. They can only spoil our chances of electing a Republican governor and turning the state around."

PARTY POLITICS AND POLLS

Schwarzenegger refused to be drawn into party politics, saying each politician had to make his or her own decision.

"They are all people I respect. They are all Republicans. They work very hard and at one point or another they have to make a decision. I can't make it for them," he said.

But when pressed, he added: "Obviously, mathematically speaking, it's wiser to only have one candidate."

Recent polls have consistently shown Davis would likely lose his seat and be replaced by either Schwarzenegger or Bustamante.

In Friday's Los Angeles Times poll of 1,351 registered voters, 50 percent of respondents supported the recall, while 45 percent opposed it and 5 percent were undecided. Seventy-two percent said they disapproved of Davis' performance.

Meanwhile, Bustamante picked up endorsements from the state's Democratic congressional delegation and two labor unions. Democratic leaders initially tried to discourage party members from challenging Davis, but switched tactics when it appeared Davis was in trouble.

The governor's wife, Sharon Davis, told CNN on Friday that the change in tactics did not indicate a loss of support for her embattled husband.

"They are all united in one point and that is 'no' on the recall," she said. "It makes a lot of sense what the Democrats are doing, they want a Democratic governor."

At an appearance with Latino business leaders in San Diego, Davis urged voters to reject the recall, calling it "undemocratic." (Additional reporting by Gina Keating)

The other thing is that some of their breakouts are obviously screwy.

They've got McClintock leading Schwarzenegger slightly among Latinos. Yet, Schwarzenegger leads McClintock overall 22-13%.

It doesn't take a political science major to tell you that something there just don't compute.
