The Marine, 2nd from the right is a friend of the family. This is a photo from April when he was patrolling a neighborhood in Baghdad with other Marines. He has since moved to another location in Iraq.

My understanding is that there are more Officer Candidates who want Infantry than there are slots available nowadays. A lot of junior officers in Ordinance, and other billets are guys who wanted Infantry but for whatever reason didn't get selected.
