You know and I know that Arnie's not stupid enough to SAY that he will raise taxes.

(sarcasm ON)

You know and I know that McClintock's not stupid enough to SAY that he would incarcerate all California Muslims into death camps during his term as governor.

(sarcasm OFF)

But he very neatly avoided saying that he would NOT raise them.

"We must never again commit Sacramento to mortgage our children's future to unconstitutional deficit spending. We must immediately attack the operating deficit head-on. Does this mean we are going to make cuts? Yes. Does this mean education is on the table? No. Does it mean I'm willing to raise taxes? No."
Arnold Schwarzenegger

You were saying?

And he's interested in "preserving Programs."

Yessss ... the ones that work and are best for the people of California. So?

Where's the money coming from? Buffett??

The same place that, presumably, Tom McClintock would get it if he was elected Governor. Again, so?

Caleefornia has been good to Arnold and he wants to do good things for Caleefornia in return. This may be where he is weakest among conservatives.

While he remembers the 'good-ole-days' it may be difficult to return them, especially with open borders, huge state and federal bureaucracies, unions, spending, etc. His enthusiasm about making things better for California is his strongest appeal. He seems very sincere in this regard.

McClintock is no fringer.

Current polling:

Arnold Schwarzenegger - 23-25%
Tom McClintock - 4%

His ability to garner more votes then anyone else in the 2002 election says a lot.

So, is the main thrust of your point "Tom's lost so many elections that he just HAS to win one sooner or later?" Funny.

I don't live in California.

Neither do I.

I think most of you Republican leftcoasters have become so infatuated with ARNOLD winning, you've thrown away your principles ...

My cat has started sleeping in the bathroom sink. Don't know what that's about.

He's testing you. Mine do it all the time, just to see what they can get away with.

McClintock is not fringe. His ideals are more mainstream than people give him credit for. He is a true conservative and most people are more conservative in their private lives than they realize. If Arnold had not entered the race, he may have had a chance. With A(R)nold in, the others don't.

When he announced I just laughed. What else could you do? If he could walk and talk coherently for eight weeks, he would win.

Well, he can walk just fine and his first press conference was a blow-out. The press gave it their best shot and he creamed them.

With Schwarzenegger in office, Bush will take California in 2004. That's a fact. With BustaMecho in office, El Presidente Fox will have a better chance than Bush.

Nope, I don't wish to hold you responsible for your people.

I again deny that I have "any people."

You're the one who brought that up. I just want you to be responsible for your own comments and I mine own. Mmm'kay?

I have never claimed nor desired otherwise.

Stop going off on a tangent and don't try to employ any of your convoluted reasoning.

I'm responding to several comments you've made about supporting Arnold. After having seen your past posts on subject matter ranging from pro-life vs abortion rights, gay rights, gun control and your strong positive political positions for fiscal conservatism, how can you even consider backing Arnold, just because he's the GOP frontrunner. He's a liberal RINO! You've trashed many Bush supporters in th past, yet now you support Arnold.

You know it D1. But do me a favor. Don't respond to the specifics of my charges against Arnold. I've read several of your posts on this thread and it appears to me, you're going along, to get along. May be I'm wrong.

You were the last person on FR who I thought would back a liberal RINO like Schwarzenegger.

Okay, fine. LOL

You refer to the PPIC poll, of which 1/4 of respondents WEREN'T EVEN REGISTERED VOTERS, and more than half ARE NOT LIKELY VOTERS.

Tom McClintock, pre-Buffet, was polling at 9%. Now that conservatives have been exposed to Arnold's penchent for raising taxes, they're less likely to buy into the "Arnold is fiscally conservative" nonsense.

With Simon out, McClintock will be at 16-18%, Arnold in the low 20's...Arnold is going down. McClintock can win...

Go Tom Go!

Reagan Man: Stop going off on a tangent and don't try to employ any of your convoluted reasoning.

Yeah Doughty, what's wrong with you? Thinking for yourself is a BAAAAD thing. You better blindly support McClintock like a good "conservative" even if you lose the election as a result.

Of course, you can prove that Schwarzenegger actually said that he would raise taxes? (Free clue: Its a sucker bet because I can produce a quote where he said that he didn't want to). G'wan, I'm waiting.

If you people elect him, you will get the kind of government you deserve...sadly.

Sure -- if you're a 'Rat. Watch the smiles on their faces while he proceeds to "terminate" the GOP from within

I disagree on both counts. We deserve better than a RINO, but apparently a true conservative Republican won't win in this state at this time. We're not RATS. We're pragmatic Republicans who want the lesser of evils. Have you done your homework on Bustamonte? (sorry, I haven't read this entire thread) Bustamonte is frying pan to the fire. He upped the ante for this election, and we must vote accordingly. Too many people see this recall as a total joke, which is making it difficult to elect the person of choice. I would proudly vote McClintock, if I thought he could win. I will proudly vote to unseat Davis AND defeat Bustemonte by voting Arnold. Any RINO on the ballot is better than what we have, and we must defeat the RATS. JMHO

Just curious - please explain exactly how Schwartzenegger has "raised taxes" when he has never held public office.

Agreed.

IMO, its still a long shot, but not out of the realm of possiblity.

Like I said though, you're the last person I thought would throw their support behind Arnold. And I sincerely mean that. You've almost left me speechless. Almost.

I don't have to. All I need to do is read some of the brown-nosing going on in this thread for career politician McClintock to see spectacular examples thereof.

Has Tom McClintock ever signed a paycheck other than in the little "Endorsement" box on the back?

The press gave it their best shot and he creamed them.

I heard some of the conference and came away knowing that Arnold is serious about returning to this state, the favors that he benefitted from the last 35 yrs.

Imagine, an outsider whose governance would not be predicated upon that which offers him the greatest opportunity for re-election (see Davis) but rather a desire to put 'golden' back into "The Golden State".

El Cruz Busta-recliner has met his 'Zorro'.

Don't bother - its like reading the worst of DU when it comes to the posts of some McClintock supporters. According to them, electing Bustamante would be preferable to Schwarzenegger.

Stop going off on a tangent and don't try to employ any of your convoluted reasoning. Whew.  Well look I addressed the issues you raised with responses that were factual and on point.  Was there another response you were looking for?

I'm responding to several comments you've made about supporting Arnold. After having seen your past posts on subject matter ranging from pro-life vs abortion rights, gay rights, gun control and your strong positive political positions for fiscal conservatism, how can you even consider backing Arnold, just because he's the GOP frontrunner. I asked you nicely to read the thread because I've explained this about twenty times on it.  I wasn't being a smart ass.  I will vote for the Republican canidate who can win.  If you will read what Bustamante is all about, you'll see why.  He's a liberal RINO! Some of his views are leftist and I have spoken out against them.  All of BustaMorte's views are leftist and he's a racist separatist.  Do you support the candidacy of a racist separatist?  I doubt it.  You've trashed many Bush supporters in th past, yet now you support Arnold.  I have argued on priciple with Bush supporters regarding his policy.  I have never entered a thread like this one and yelled nothing but RINO for thirty or forty posts like some have here.  And while I don't like Bush's opponenets, none of them have openly called for the U.S. to be turned over to Aztlan, like Cruz BustaMoldo has California.

You know it D1. But do me a favor. Don't respond to the specifics of my charges against Arnold. I've read several of your posts on this thread and it appears to me, you're going along, to get along. May be I'm wrong.  I am not in agreement with Arnold on a number of issues.  There, for the 21st time, this is my take on Arnold.  Like it or not, I'm faced with a person who is so bad that I have no other choice but to make sure they can't get in.

We're playing the 'lesser of two evils' game again, only this time I don't have the pleasure of a primary to weed the leftists out.  I'm stuck with what appears to be one viable candidate, and one other candidate on the other side who thinks we shouldn't even be part of the United States any longer.  Which one would you vote for?

You were the last person on FR who I thought would back a liberal RINO like Schwarzenegger.  Well I'm probably the last person you'd think would drive over a 25 foot cliff too.  If the options were to drive over a 1000 foot cliff or a 25 foot cliff, I'd probably opt for the 25 foot cliff, being the unreasonable character I am.
