Well, what are they going to do, send out the Meat Police? Monitor how many vegetables we eat?

Bah! My husband has lost 16 pounds in two weeks, feels great, and is walking 4 miles a day (which he never would have done before starting on the diet...he had NO energy).

I started 3 days ago, have lost 4 pounds, and I feel great as well. A lot of what I'm eating is the same as before except I've left out sweets, bread, pasta and potatoes. I am taking vitamins and am making sure I eat the salads and vegetables recommended.

This is sour grapes, in my opinion.

"Research has clearly shown that high-protein, meat-heavy diets increase the risk of osteoporosis and kidney disorders"

Yeah. Through no scientificly sound research. Probably by .00000001

They went through all of this 30 years ago and as far as I can see the sour grapes is right. I know all kinds of people on it and not one has reported kidney problems 30 years ago or now, as I sit here eating my shrimp cocktail. I have lost 30 pounds now and with the keto sticks there is no guess work. You know right away where your carb tolerance is.

Tried it for a few days and the ketostix never turned colors. Someone said it's due to the coffee I drink and one must only drink decaffeinated (which I detest). Would you know if this true?

My wife has lost 17 pounds in two weeks, my son 13. I've lost some and feel great but that won't stop the diet-nazis from trying to control what we choose to do.

"Well, what are they going to do, send out the Meat Police? Monitor how many vegetables we eat?

Well if they take the typical government approach. We will all have to keep logs of everything we eat to document that we aren't on the Atkin's diet. Then we will have to save our Grocery Receipts. Our refrigerators and meal-times will be subject to surprise audits.

There, of course will be a hotline where anyone with a grudge against you can start an investigation of you where the burden of proof is on you, by anonymously reporting that they saw you ate at Western Sizzlin.

That won't be sufficient though. Eventually you will have to choose a diet plan. People will object because not everyone needs to diet. Two years later they will make us chooose a "meal plan" to avoid the stigma of the word "diet".

Then they will find a couple of examples where people chose inappropriate diets. So our choice of meal plans will now have to be approved by either a Doctor or a registered dietician.

If you have a blood test and the results are inconsistent with the meal plan that you are on, you will be subject to further investigation.

Of course they will go after the distributors. Grocery stores will be required to report purchases, so that the Feds can zero in on communities that aren't following the meal plans.

The low fat (high carb) diets will cause more obesity, diabeties, heart disease and vitamin deficiency. So the government will react by vigorously prosecuting those whose weight gain and symptons don't match what the government perceives the results of low fat diets should be.

Maybe we need to put the government on a diet before it puts us on one.

Vitamins are good to make sure you get your nutrients in case you don't eat a balanced diet. The Atkins attracts me. I only need to lose 20 pounds to be a normal weight thanks to my jaw surgery this summer giving me a boost by dropping me 20 pounds after surgery. I might give it a try after school starts.
