Because the Republicans did not push the issue after he stepped down. If they had taken him to court for purjery, witness tampering, liable, and the fact that he lied under oath thus viiolating his oath of office, then they might have had grounds to question his selections. But they chose to write him off as a bad influence and let him walk. I will never forgive the Republican party for this. They screamed rule of law, and let a number of good people get ripped in the press and personal threats, then when they got to the position where they could actually apply it, they backed off. Now they are seeing some of the results.

Another case of selective enforcement "under the law" being used by sniveling cowards who simultaneously out the other mouth of their two-faced hypocrisy, "the law is the law"!

If you or I had committed perjury and witness intimidation, we'd be sitting in jail. However, that's only politics, so it doesn't really count. /sarcasm
