Nonsense?

From Americans United's website:

Americans United for Separation of Church and State deplored the Senate committee’s 10-9 party-line approval of Pryor and urged the entire Senate to reject his nomination to the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The 11th Circuit hears federal appeals from Alabama, Georgia and Florida.

Read the rest for yourself.

ONE THING STANDS ABOVE THE LAW, COURAGE!

Totally Agree. I respect Judge Moore immensly for standing by his principals, he has shown that he is willing to fall on his sword over this issue.

I personally feel the Federal Court overstepped its bounds in ordering the monument removed, but once the SCOTUS refused to issue a stay, the deal was done until SCOTUS hear's the appeal.

I respect Judge Moore's decision to defy the order, but I also applaud Bill Pryor for upholding the law and obeying the order.

I agree. No violence. But the public needs an outlet. THE LAW SPITS UPON GOD! SO I SAY, WE SPIT UPON THE LAW! CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE! PEACEFUL PROTEST! ACROSS THE NATION! OUR FLAG, OUR SYMBOL, THE 10 COMMANDMENTS! PLASTER IT ON THE WALLS! PLASTER IT ON FEDERAL VEHICLES! PLASTER IT EVERYWHERE THAT ANNOYS LIBERALS!

Well, then Moore should have the courage to take his medicine, which may result in his being removed from office.

I think he has already shown himself to have that courage. Certainly he has shown more courage than those who roll over like dogs for the federal judiciary.

Sorry, disobeying a court order is contempt of court.

Their stature would be greatly enhanced if they would take the stand their hearts tell them they should take. Both are declared Christian men and leaders. They should lead.

""You don't understand, we live in a democracy, the majority rules, except when it doesn't. Got it now?""

As a Texan, yes, I get it.
When in the majority, the leftists run roughshod over any opposition and claim they never saw anyone. When in the minority, they run across State lines - either to go to another State, or to whine to the Federal Courts.

Thanks for the clarification. Probably if you look closely at the tablets Moses is carrying, they read, "The Ten Suggestions, but do what you want -- it doesn't matter to Me."

Is there ever a line which simply must be crossed?

This ain't it, Knotts.

Moore will likely use this as a stepping-stone to run against Richard Shelby next year for Senate.

This is purely political, as was his run for Chief Justice in 1998.

Where is your federalism now? The control over state judges rests with the state JQC and the state bar.

You're assuming that the case law that state courts have to obey lower federal courts is correct

That's not case law - it's written into the Constitution as the Supremacy Clause.

How many divorced people, especially men, have you met who thought they got a fair shake in their divorce decree? How many defendants held liable for negligence admit they made a mistake? How many people in jail will admit they did the crime? Having a Chief Justice take the position that people don't have to obey court orders they disagree with is a prescription for anarchy.

I don't like the federal decision any better than the others on this thread but the way to go about changing this is not to tear down the rule of law.

OK, this is what I don't understand. The SCOTUS refuses to take the appeal, but the appeal was of a federal judge's decision (a Clinton appointee, if I recall correctly). The feds are already involved. Why does the Supreme Ct. decide to sidestep this issue?

I don't care what the ACLU says about Pryor.

Pryor did the right thing here, upholding the law.

Do you think Moore would think it OK for Alabama citizens, citing him as an example, to start ignoring laws he thinks are constitutional?

He already tried. They rejected the appeal.

He asked for a temporary injunction to stay the lower court order. They are almost never granted. The proper appeal process would be to file for a writ of certiorari.
