Why I hate George W. Bush.(Barf and Slate Alert)
Slate: Best of the Fray: Aug 20 2003 2:33PM ^ | Aug 20 2003 2:33PM | Geoff

Alright, you asked for it. I'll try to keep my wits about me, though the emotional base upon which this argument is built is quite tumultuous.

Why would I say that I "hate" George W. Bush? Isn't that a little strong? Isn't he just your average politician? Isn't this just some natural extension of your overall left-leaning political views?

No, not really...

I need to explain what I think about politicians in general...

... And one, one of these scumbags prances before the public eye, nakedly self-aggrandizing… contemptuous of America, contemptuous of Americans, contemptuous of his detractors, contemptuous of his supporters… and nobody seems to notice. And that one, I call him George W. Bush.

[Note: Blatherous vitriolic tirade omitted for the sake of clarity]

[final conclusions]...But the final mark of disrespect… the gut-level intuition that leads me to label him an EVIL man, rather than a merely despicable one is his casual contempt for human life. There aren't words to describe the horror I feel when I see Bush look into the nation's television cameras with that sadistic little smirk and tell us euphemistically, as if half-choking on a stifled snort that our enemies… "let's put it this way: they are no longer a problem to the United States and our friends and allies." The barely-suppressed, no not really suppressed at all, look of GLEE at the thought of the death America has inflicted upon it's enemies. I recognize that it is necessary to kill human beings. I recognize that our security demands it. That every president must hold the lives and deaths of strangers in his hands. But the fact that we MUST kill NEVER excuses taking delight THAT we kill. You probably don't believe me. I don't know if you believe Tucker Carlson when he describes Bush's mockery of Karla Faye Tucker: "Please," Bush whimpers, his lips pursed in mock desperation, "don't kill me." Maybe some of you don't believe it. Worse, maybe some of you feel the same way, and consider Bush's response… virtuous? I don't know. I look at Bush, taunting the camera, daring America's enemies to "bring it on" and I see a sick and disgusting man – the worst face of America sneering in the spotlight. A man who doesn't bother to care about the enormity of his job, the enormity of its consequences, and the enormity of this glorious Republic we've brought forth.

When I look at George W. Bush, I don't see a patriot. I see a lying, psychopathic narcissist. And it pains me, it grieves me, it WOUNDS me to realize that this puts me not only in the minority… but in the "whacko fringe."

Hate so blinding, the left can't see straight. The last person they hated this bad, was Reagan. But I recall a response from Ayn Rand when confronted in an interview by the fact that she was among the mosty hated people in the world. She responded that in the world as it exists today, I take that as a profound compliment. We can judge ourselves effectively by looking at the reactions from those for which we have no repsect. If they agreed with us or liked us, we must be doing something wrong.

Why don't ya just let Geoff know what you think his opinion.

Spitting, spluttering blind hatred with an emotional rationale. Come to think of it, that's a pretty good description of the left. It's so good to see this guy developing ulcers!

Good thing NPR teamed up with Slate to co-produce its new show. Now we can have at least these two groups of Liberals in one bunch.

Does anyone remember the spider-character from "the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" who had been reincarnated many times, only to be killed by the same man over and over? The man walks into the spider's cave and beholds a shrine of Hatred (of him).

This reminds me of that.

I'd have to say his self-assessment is right on the mark.

I'm thrilled to see the Advocates for the Left in the media go embrace the fringes of extremism, simply because that's a sure fire way to **lose** the popularity contests that give Power to those who run Republics and Democracies.

Call me when the "Intelligensia" figures out that they need to **appear** moderate. Until then, it's just Dukakis in a tank all over again.

"...I see a lying, psychopathic narcissist."

Just what I used to see whenever Bill C. was on.

This guy would have had an aneurism during WWII, when the killing of Japs was the popular national pastime.

I hope he's got some wet-naps to wipe all that spittle off his face.

Y'know, we aren't Clinton fans here (duh), but I don't think I've ever read such vitriolic hatred of this level ever written about him here; certainly not on Slate ;) Am I mistaken?

Interesting, he's led to hatred because he doesn't like someone that advocates killing terrorists. Traitor.

I think this article is essentially a mirror-image of a posting I read here on FreeRepublic back during the Clinton years; say in 1999 or 2000. It may have been in the days immediately following the Elian Gonzales incident. I wish I could remember enough about it to find it in the archives. As I recall, the writer made some remark to the effect that "I know that my feelings may put me in the wacko fringe, but so be it."

Whew. I thought this was an actual editorial by Slate, and not a vanity-post by someone on Slate's discussion-board. I can ignore it now.
