Arnold Schwarzenegger has jumped past Democrat Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante in California's gubernatorial race, according to a poll released today.
The survey by Public Policy Institute of California, like earlier independent polls by other organizations, found that most of the likely voters support the ouster of Gov. Gray Davis in the Oct. 7 recall election.
"Given their frustration, it is understandable that Californians would be captivated by the recall campaign," said survey director Mark Baldassare.
The poll found that Schwarzenegger won support from 23 percent of likely voters, compared with Bustamante's 18 percent. Schwarzenegger trailed Bustamante in a Field Poll last week.
The telephone survey of 993 likely voters, conducted between Aug. 8 and Sunday, found that:

Other candidates received only single-digit support, including Tom McClintock (in third place with 5 percent) Omigosh - he's GAINED A PERCENTAGE POINT! By the time the election rolls around, he might just break 10 percent!

Poor Juan Williams on Fox last night was still waving the old Field Poll around, claiming that Bustamove was in the lead. I would guess that the massive number of undecideds are inclined to vote for a Republican, but haven't decided which one yet.

BTW, from your link I see that NewsMax is selling "Terminator for Governor" teeshirts. I guess they haven't heard he's an unacceptable "RINO."

...conducted between Aug. 8 and SundayWow, and that's before Buster's "I-love-you-give-me-mo'-money" speech, and Arnold's excellent presentation yesterday.
Wonder what impact THAT will have!

Oh, be nice to McClintock, even if some of his supporters here aren't nice to you. We need McClintock in case Arnold stumbles.

Yes too bad ole chap, in the event Arnold "stumbles", Stallone takes over. We all know how that chap "Rambo" looks at politics and government eh?
To: KurtChicago
is Arnold a real Republican? He is a card-carrying, registered R. Need something else?

let's see how he will perform as a governor It's a good show so far. The campaign is a foretaste of what the governorship will look and sound like.

I'm glad to see that Freepers and self-proffessed conservatives are still working hard to put Bustamante in office today.
I'm starting to get the feeling that you all wanted the recall so that you could replace Davis with an even bigger creep. . .

I'm starting to get the feeling that you all wanted the recall so that you could replace Davis with an even bigger creep. . .It might not be such a bad idea. We really need to start over in this state, and letting it sink to the lowest possible level under another socialist would allow people to see how bad the left really can make things. Thats better than having a Republican getting blamed because he is to governor, but ineffective with a Democratic everything else.

Let's be careful when reporting "movement" between separate polls. The Field poll was registered voters and slants toward Democratic candidates. That's the one that Busta-move was in first.
This poll contacts likely voters and more truly reflects what will happen on election day.

For the sake of the country as well as my father and brother who live in California, I hope SOMEONE can fix the mess before it gets worse.
Arnold may be a bit liberal in some areas, but he would certainly be better than Davis or Bustamante. According to my Dad, they are really the only three choices that have a chance (and Davis is sinking fast).
