It seems that the Democrats are fighting hard to retain their title as The Emperors of Unintended Consequences. SB 60, which is currently in the State Assembly, would effectively delete the requirement that the State of California establish legal residency in the United States for anyone wishing to obtain a California drivers license. And since there are those on either side of the immigration debate who have strong emotional opinions, it is left up to others to decide what are the practical effects of the legislation. For interested firearms activists, SB 60 has a significant impact when related to firearms sales. After all, it is a hallmark of the 1968 Firearms Control Act that individuals without an FFL must be legal residents of the state that they intend to buy a firearm in. That is why it is now illegal for a regular Texas resident to buy a handgun in California without going through the schlep having the gun sent to an FFL in Texas first. There are a lot of good arguments against DL's for illegals. This is not one of them, since it's based on illegal NRA sponsored legislation.
