Fresno/Central Valley Chapter ^ | Aug 20, 2003 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 08/20/2003 10:36:53 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

The Fresno/Central Valley Chapter cordially invites one and all to our second annual Fresno Tailgate and Rally on Friday and Saturday, September 12th and 13th, 2003.

Our rally will begin at 5:00 pm and end at 7:00 pm Friday night, at the corner of Blackstone and Shaw in Fresno. Afterwards, the group will retire for dinner and refreshments at the nearby Ramada Inn.

Our tailgate pot-luck picnic will be at Woodward Park on Saturday, September 13th. We have the Mountain View Picnic Area from 3:00 pm until 10:00 pm.

The entrance to Woodward Park is on Audubon Drive, just off Freeway 41 on the northern edge of Fresno. The Mountain View Pinic Shelter is near the center of the park and is the second parking lot on the left from the Audubon entrance.

Bring your flags, banners, signs, family and children. Prepare to support your country and enjoy the company of your good FReeper friends!

I have to go to our BSA yearly planning potluck, which ironically, is taking place just a few picnic areas away.

What a coincidence. Maybe you can run back and forth between the two. Glad you will at least be able to spend some time with us.

Re: your wonderful rice pilaf, you will need to ask Amy about that. I know she wants to keep the food simplier this year, so I don't what she has in mind for people to bring. She is on vacation but is supposed to be home sometime this weekend. You might want to freepmail her.

See you soon.

I made a test run on the tri-tip today!

I wanted to make sure that I have the “formula” right. Taste test must have passed as six of us managed to dispose of the two that I cooked. I think that I am ready.

On the Sunday after the picnic, I would like to recommend that all FReepers in the Fresno area -- including those visiting for the Tailgate, if you can stick around -- go to the 2:30 matinee performance of "The Liberty Dance of Henry Sparrow," a most incredible dramatization of one man's experiences in the Revolutionary War. Not a sanitized, propagandistic view of the Revolution, this tells the truth in all its terrible detail, and makes you truly proud to bear the title "American."

It's showing at the new Palm Center for the Performing Arts in the Fig Garden Village (formerly the Fig Garden Cinema). Check out the website at http://www.thepalmcenter.com/ (we can get a group ticket rate if enough of us plan to go) and a great review at http://www.centralvalley.com/portal/getout/artsnlife/story/7170107p-8099327c.html

The writer/director, Edward EmmanuEl, is that rara avis, a conservative Republican serving on a university faculty (in the theater department no less!), and also is a professional screenwriter (his most well-known works were the movie "3 Ninjas" and several episodes of "Barnaby Jones;" He was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for his play about Chinese freedom fighter Sun Yat Sen).

A Conservative Republican in the theatre department?!?

Wow! When I was on drama at school there were a lot of strange and interesting types, but not many conservatives, that's for sure!

Victoria

Do you know yet if you'll be able to make it to the rally?

I'll know by the end of this week and I will let you know for sure. I really hope I can make it, but it will be just a weekend trip. I teach Spanish and I have used my vacation teaching Italian. So I don't have any more extra days to spare. I'll know if I can afford this trip by the end of this week.

Well, I sure you can be there. So, you teach languages, huh? I studied New Testament Greek at Biola University (don't ask me to remember much) in La Mirada, California. Where do you teach?

I'd prefer to freepmail you that information so as to keep potential blackmailers, and malicious slanderers and gossipers away from my business.

See you there. I will bring the macaroni salad packed in an ice chest. Will bring a lot of it, by the way. I remember those hungry FReepers from last year. Can't wait!!! By the way, did you know that's the weekend of the California Republican Party convention? Who cares?!! A bunch of RINO's. Conservatives rule!!!
