[history]
Human body lice appear to owe their origin to the invention of clothing, and the types that reside on our bodies appear to have hitchhiked along as modern humans migrated out of Africa about 100,000 years ago.
Mark Stoneking and colleagues at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany, made the connection between the origin of clothing and the rise of human body lice by checking so-called molecular clocks found in the cells of all living creatures.

Really??? This "fundie" has a "live-in"??? Wonder how that is explained to the congregation...hehehe...can you say, "hypocrisy"??? ROFLMAO, best laugh all day, thanks!
To: Right Wing Professor
Well, you are a tad annoying.
And besides, there was no threat. You are sensationalizing.
To: Right Wing Professor
I think Mr. Robinson being a veteran himself would probably inform you young man that if a black beret really threatened you YOU WOULD KNOW IT. That has not happened here and you know it you little drama queen.
This is from the husband.

Your post 242 was an unsubtle threat of physical violence. I am presuming Admin Moderator is going to do a little more than merely remove it, considering you are a once-banned poster who returned under dubious circumstances.

Excuse me, get rid of Christians?
Since when?
My goodness, so you feel persecuted do you?
Why would that be, because we understand the scientific method and are therefore dangerous because we try to explain such things to people that don't understand it, and once they actually understand the science, then they might not become fundamentalists?
We love Christians, some of my best neighbors are Christians, they are not fundamentalists, but they are christians. Whether you think they are or not.
They do not threaten violence when confronted with a question that they do not want to answer.
We also have a few Christians here that understand that evolution is the best scientific theory to explain the available evidence as well.
We do not persecute Christians, far from it, I just wish most fundamentalists had the same Christian attitude that most christians try to live by.
So far I have seen nothing of that from you at all.
Are you sure you are a christian, because such aggressiveness and anger, and threatening people does not sound very christian.
Perhaps you ought to pray about it and get back to us in a week or so.

The "fundie" has a dear husband of 16 years. Not a "live in" as you so democratically put it.

The specific quote you mention, from a letter to Sunderland dated 10th April 1979, is accurate as far as it goes. The passage quoted continues "... a watertight argument. The reason is that statements about ancestry and descent are not applicable in the fossil record. Is Archaeopteryx the ancestor of all birds? Perhaps yes, perhaps no: there is no way of answering the question. It is easy enough to make up stories of how one form gave rise to another, and to find reasons why the stages should be favoured by natural selection. But such stories are not part of science, for there is no way to put them to the test."
He didn't say he was misquoted. He said the quote was correct. He then goes on to clarify the quote by going further in the letter.
This leaves us with 3 options regarding the quote. A) The creationist deliberately distorted what Patterson said. (I'm sure this will be the evos on this thread favorite option though they have no actual proof of the sort. B) He simply misunderstood what Patterson was saying. or C)His use of the quote was for an entirely different point.
I can testify that C is a possibility as on this thread all things have been read into why I posted the quotes in the first place. Aric said "Even if Darwin had not decided to publish his Origin of the Species because it might upset the church, someone else would have.
Evolution as a theory was coming, there was entirely too much evoidence pointing in that direction for it to be ignored, no matter how much the church may have thrown a hissy fit about it.
Geologic ages, fossil remains, and now DNA, ALL point to evolution as the most probable cause of ALL of it. "
His inference was that the evidence was so strong and has continued to be so strong that everything points to evolution as the cause of it all. He then goes on to mention some specifics: Geological ages (which evolution is DEAD without), fossil remains, and DNA. I posted the quotes to show that even amongst evolutionists the evidence is without huge gaps and holes and it is not as iron clad as Aric would infer. I specifically said that these were quotes from EVOLUTIONISTS. I never made claims that these folks were doubting evolution (though there is a tinge of doubt in most of the quotes) or were on the verge of announcing anything a lie, or anything of the sort.
This merited me being called some of the nastiest things I've ever been called by a group that specializes in personal attacks and character assasination.
For the record, as far as I know, every one of the quotees is still (if they are living) a devoted evolutionist (if they are dead, I'm positive they would want to revise a few of their statements rather radically). They have authored books on evolution because they believe it occurred.
Also, for the record, thus far, nothing I have seen has shown me that these quotes were taken so far out of their context as to be a lie (which is a direct charge from certain individuals on this board).
Furthermore, I have seen deliberate lies concerning what I have said, and I do believe they are deliberate. You saw my post on Nazism. I went WAY out of my way not to implicate modern evolutionists with the crime and my sole purpose in posting such was to show that a worldview (be it evolution, athiesm, or post-modernism) that does not have an absolute moral standard imposed by an authority higher than man can lead anywhere. My quotes further bolstered that at least in part Hitler was directly influenced by the words of Darwin himself and Huxley, Darwin's disciple. I never called a person on this thread a Nazi. Didn't say that all or even most evolutionists are Nazis. I was simply pointing out that this worldview does have moral implications which can be turned to the bad (as in Hitler) or perhaps to the good (like Mother Teresa). It is morality based upon man's preference (unless it is Theistic evolution, which gets us into an entirely different conversation about how does one determine what's right, but leads basically to the same conclusion of every man doing what is right in his own eyes).
I am not a person who just jumps on a thread and starts calling folks Nazis. I've been on FR since 1998 (I was just Dittojed in the beginning, a screename I think I may still have access to but haven't used in years), and my reputation here is established. I'm passionate in debate, but I'm not a name caller and I won't post something inflamatory without providing the backup for what I am saying. Of course my sources, regardless of their experience and credentials are "stupid" "idiotic" "cranks""liars""plagiarizers" and so on and so on, so I mainly post for lurkers, because though I know I'm safe in a den of vipers I'm afraid some would not be immune to their venom. That's what Free Republic is for. It is a place to debate, to talk, and to get all sides of the story out. I'm comfortable with others reading my sources and could easily debate these folks in a very cordial manner. Yet, from the very beginning they have not just attacked my beliefs but my very person. Oh well, I guess they have to do what they have to do- but they should know I am protected with anti-venom.

And you have no idea what I have read and what I haven't.
All you can tell at this point is that I am a major religous history buff.
I love to find out how religions came about and how they evolved into what they are today.
Christianity has been one of my favorites to study, because there is so much of it, and it such a major religion.
Problem with me is that when evidence is overwhelming and has a number of different sources, I most likely will take it as it is, but if it disagrees with you, you will toss it aside as unimportant, or ignore that it actually exists.
That is the fun of not being a part of any major religion, I can look at it from a neutral perspective and get to the truth of it.
Whereas, YOU CANNOT...
Ain't that fun?

So, sir, when your wife, who alleges you are a 210 pound, ex-green-beret, and saw fit to mention that, said you would spell it out for me, what exactly did she mean? And please specify why your weight and military record are relevant.
By the way, I should mention I really don't care if you're Godzilla. I don't get intimidated. And I despise anyone who would try to use his record as a member of an honorable military unit to do so.
To: Right Wing Professor
YOu know nothing of honor. I am not a threat to you young man, you are your own biggest threat. Now why not leave us both alone. Try growing up.
