Lice offer clues to origin of clothing
USA TODAY ^ | 8/18/2003 | Tim Friend

Human body lice appear to owe their origin to the invention of clothing, and the types that reside on our bodies appear to have hitchhiked along as modern humans migrated out of Africa about 100,000 years ago.

Mark Stoneking and colleagues at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany, made the connection between the origin of clothing and the rise of human body lice by checking so-called molecular clocks found in the cells of all living creatures.

I was waiting for the Nose-bleeding libertarian monkey's son placemark.

How can I respond to such rigorous logic, such devastating wit?

OK guys, I take absolutely no responsibility for ht following link, but I got it from CNET.com, so I don't think it has any bad virus-like qualities.

http://www.iespell.com/download.php

This is a completely free spell checker that integrates with Internet Explorer, puts an icon on your tool bar, and checks the spelling on any and all web forms. It's magic. Wish it weren't so new, because there are no user reviews except this one, and I've only had it five minutes.

It sdoesn't surprise me. Just based on the claims I have personally examined; DittoJed2 has posted one link to a piece of scientific fraud about dating; a bunch of fallacious nonsense about the so-called absence of transitional fossils; and her Nazi evo nonsense. I assumed if i've checked out 3 claims and found them to be rubbish, then there's not a whole lot of point wasting my time to see if the other 10 are likely to be true.

An out of context quote is a deliberate deception, and a deliberate deception is a lie.

How about These intermediate species?

Or these?

Just because I dispute your arguments is no reason to turn nasty. I believe I've been civil to you throughout our discussions.

Forgive me, but you bore the severe misfortune of posting after a couple of very nasty character assassination posts aimed at me. When you asked about phyletic, I thought you were continuing in the path of previous posters.

The reason I asked if you know what "phyletic" means is that you seem to be misinterpreting Dr. Stanley's comments. As is explained here, "phyletic evolution" means evolution within a single species --what you call "microevolution." Stanley's full quote, without the clever editing of whatever website you found it on, says that phyletic evolution doesn't show major morphological changes, because such changes occur at the level of evolutionary transition between species.

I understood phyletic to mean when evolution occurs without branching out. Since P.E. postulates that a group of a species branched away from its parent species and gradually evolved and then some time returned, supplanting the parent species, I understood him to be saying that the gradualism of Darwinian evolution does not work but P.E. works better.

Three-year-olds understand that but some Creationists don't. Funny world, isn't it?

No, it's you who doesn't understand. This is a titanic, cosmic, incredibly important war of good against evil. ("Evil" being, of course, eeeevil-louuu-shun-ism and its allied "sciences.") When fighting against this ultimate evil, any weapon, anything at all, that can help to smite the accursed enemy is perfectly acceptable. Facts don't matter. Logic doesn't matter. Contradictions are to be ignored. Tortured, twisted quotes are no problem. The dark forces of the enemy are trying to destroy everything that is good, and they deserve no fair play, which they will only use as a shield to confound the noble warriors. The whole game is to do good by destroying the evil ones and their wicked doctrines. The glory of the ends justifies any means. That's the deal.

Reminds of a short story I read where the same fools at Armageddon only realized they were fighting on the wrong side after it was all over.

You madame are clueless as to WHAT ELSE I did in Turkey and in and around Europe itself, I got a lot of time off for scholastic studies, and a lot of $10 rides on military transport.

You are CLUELESS as to what I did.

Also, since I can look at things in a HISTORICAL perspective, and look at the evidence in a neutral way, I think that wasting my time on you with actual facts, evidence etc would be a waste of time, as well as the fact that I will most certainly upset some christians that I consider friends.

Therefore, since it most certainly would not effect your fanatical behavior or beliefs in the least, I have decided that it would be a waste to go there with you.

If anyone else would be interested in discussing this, please freepmail me and we can discuss it and talk about it, privately.

But you my dear lady have no idea what knowledge that I have been able to accrue in my travels, straight from the source documents themselves, with a little help from an interpreter.

You do not WANT me to go there, but at the same time it would be a waste of time to go there, so I choose at this point, NOT to.

Made a port call in Turkey back in '88. I was surprised at the Turks' treatment of the myriad Roman to Medieval era ruins that dotted the town I visited. The Turks had turned some into trash dumps and used ancient city walls to prop modern apartments against. I remembered peeking into a hole in an otherwise vacant lot and seeing what appeared to be the ruins of a small church. It was ... weird.

I know, some of that stuff almost made me want to cry, but they are doing a GREAT job on Ephesus and a few other newly discovered cities, so I have to forgive them.

I traveled a lot around he middle east, Israel, Egypt, you ever swam in the dead sea? Weirdest experience of my life, just float around with no life preserver or anything, it's just bizarre how boiyant you are.

Anyway, need to fix some dinner, since I didn't get one fish, had a big old beast roll right in front of me, almost teasing me. Man, that made me mad!! Could have reached out and grabbed the little sucker, well, it wasn't so little.

Off to cooking for a bit.
