Lice offer clues to origin of clothing

Human body lice appear to owe their origin to the invention of clothing, and the types that reside on our bodies appear to have hitchhiked along as modern humans migrated out of Africa about 100,000 years ago.

Mark Stoneking and colleagues at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany, made the connection between the origin of clothing and the rise of human body lice by checking so-called molecular clocks found in the cells of all living creatures.

Long post, completely unresponsive. Your list of credentials were on display long before this thread. I merely suggest you should consider how others see you.

No one requires formal, academic style references. A link to the source would be sufficient. That's what the internet is great at. Again, the reason you are abused over out of context quotes is that use of quotes to twist another person's words to mean something the person did not intend is a fraud, a lie, and for you in particular, a sin.

Do I look humiliated? Not quite.

No, you look completely innured to humuliation.

Don't you just hate it when you think of the perfect snappy comeback and then discover typos?

I always have a mental image of myself disdainfully swirling my virtual cloak with a carefree Errol Flynn-like gesture ("take that, you savage!") and then slipping on a banana peel. ;^)

You forget that, to a liberal, the ends justify the means, no matter how many of the 10 commandments are broken in doing so.

“The known fossil record fails to document a single example of phyletic evolution accomplishing a major morphologic [structural] transition and hence offers no evidence that the gradualistic model can be valid.” - Dr. Steven Stanley, department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, John Hopkins University.

Once again, reading the whole quote in context shows a very different meaning.

Add to the list of things Free Republic could use (in addition to Ignore and the ability to edit posts) spell-check.

I do not see how the quote in context says anything different than what my quote purported to say. This evolutionist was saying in the article that you quoted that a gradual approach is not seen in the fossil record, but postulates that a punctuated approach is. Again, I never said that these guys weren't evos.

The very fact that something like punctuated equillibrium had to be postulated shows that Darwinism did not deliver on its claims. The fossil record needed some 'splainin' to do for it to re-fit the evolutionary model.

Now wait a minute. Lurking Libertarian just showed you that the thing you quoted was completely hacked up to make it say something the author didn't actually mean, and that doesn't bother you?

The normal reaction, especially among educated people, is to be horrified at having unintentionally misrepresented something, mortified at being shown up, and apologetic for having bungled so badly in the first place.

At least, every educated person I know expresses great remorse and chagrin at having been misled into making such a grotesque blunder.

But you cheerily say hi-ho and continue on your merry way as if nothing happened?!?!?!

What gives?

Did you know you were misrepresenting before you did it, or do you simply not care?

Hi ditto :)
I agree and also take the scripture at face value. I think it is the only way.

The very fact that something like punctuated equillibrium had to be postulated shows that Darwinism did not deliver on its claims. The fossil record needed some 'splainin' to do for it to re-fit the evolutionary model.

You have to understand: To a paleontologist a transition that occurred 100 million years ago, can last for 100,000 years and still look like a blink of eye to the geological record. And of course, 100,000 years can represent 100,000 generations' worth of evolving!

That is why punctuated equilibrium's challenge to orthodox gradualism is immaterial to the question of the truth of evolution.

Without reading the entire passage in context I won't venture a guess as to what he was saying. I'd be ashamed to express an opinion based on a few quotes taken out of context.

You should be ashamed, too. You're bearing false witness.

Then you should also be ashamed of accusing me of taking something out of context when you haven't read the context.

First of all, you're quote list has been displayed a thousand times before, and the stuff LL is posting has as well. What you've done, and what you refuse to acknowledge is essentially this:

Bob Smith said, "I... beat my wife."

After someone takes the time to look up what Bob really said, and finding out that Bob said, "I do not beat my wife." And then you refuse to retract your "legally correct" statement. Movie advertisements and creationists corner the market when it comes to this stuff.

Another fine example would be:

Bob Smith said, "evolutionists are full of crap."

When in reality, the full quote was, "Creationists wrongly assert evolutionists are full of crap."

In other words, you're bearing false witness and I'm sure you'll pray for forgiveness tonight.

I read your "evolution through the back door" at another site. I remember you posting against evolution much more in the past than you are doing now. What has caused the change? You know yourself that two religions cannot mix. You are either for Him or against Him. You really have confused me so much I cannot say. I am sure you love everyone including the evolutionist if you are a Born again Christian as you say you are. What I am having trouble with is how it seems to me, you have changed sides of the volleyball net somehow. You seem so kind to the evolutionist and so not so nice to the Christians these days. I thought the agreement that you and someone eles thought up was going to keep civility on these threads but instead, the one who helped you in trying to keep it nice here is gone and the evos are saying any nasty thing they like. What's worse, you seem to be advocating it. What a crazy world we live in. I have seen the word troll here so many times it is sickening, and much more than that.
