Arnold Schwarzenegger speaks during a meeting with his economic advisors dubbed the "California Economic Recovery Council" in Los Angeles.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Republican candidate in California's recall race for governor, said he would hire an outside auditor to go through the state budget and identify potential areas to cut. He also pledged to avoid raising taxes.

I didn't say property taxes- I was being more general.

Proposition 13 would have to be repealed for him to raise property taxes more than 2% a year. Not so with income, sales, corporate, "sin," and firearms taxes.

And at least the legislative GOP would hold the line against Bustamante's insanity. They'll all go kiss Arnold's giant, gaudy blue ring, because, hot-damn, he's a Republican, and he needs to get what he wants, even if it's a tax increase (see the generally conservative Bill Jones kissing Wilson's behind to pass his tax increase in the early 1990s for an example of this).

Arnold will not get my vote.

But at least it's "for the children"

That's right. The Children get first dibs on the treasury. Really warms your heart, doesn't it? Wouldn't it be refreshing to hear a politician say something like "Children are the parent's responsibility, not the government's" and "If you can't feed 'em don't breed 'em"?

I can't stand children.

You want to see real anger, you should go read my blog.

I have some set terms for certain candidates, all of which would probably get my post on FR yanked. The one for Simon rhymes with "toad," however.

Arnold's had more affairs, and less rapes, than Bubba.

Also, the women he's had these affairs with were actually attractive, as opposed to that makeup splattered cow Monica.

Are you serious? What Legislative GOP? You mean that group of roadkill in Sacramento?

It's a good start.

Yes, and this was the kind of specific-vaguery that I was most afraid of. He will confuse many conservatives by getting close to issues they care about, yet not necessarily committing to acting the way they want.

I listened to most of his conference live. I wish I had counted the number of times the word "reform" was used in describing issues we care about; Workers Comp, taxes, the budget, etc. For many starry-eyed FReepers, this is MORE than enough for them, but I've seen enough out of this guy to know that he has set up plausible deniability by not saying WHAT he will be doing with these important issues.

At least the first Bush made an actual pledge in "read my lips" that we could fry his moderate butt on. This one won't, and I'm afraid that all too many Republicans have the poster like Fox Mulder in his office, instead of an alien spacecraft is has Ahrnold Buffet with the phrase I Want To Believe and will sell out the state to Shriver-Buffet. Speaking of which

1/3 + 1 is all that's necessary.

They did a great job this year keeping back all but the car tax increase- the only defector was Keith Richman.

He saw "Dave", too. Is Charles Grodin on the team yet?

Fact is, the lefty bent of Arnold's other beliefs will drag his tax policy with it. . .

Here's what it means: Prop. 13 overturned, state income tax rates going up, state sales tax raised, drivers licenses for illegals, mandated health care for all workers in the state, gay marraige. Warren Buffet's faux paux were more telling than anyone can imagine.

. . . and then one day he'll magically say, just like Bustamante, "California needs tough love. Here's your tax hike."

Only if you're straight, white, male, a U.S. citizen and make over $40k per year. Of course, with all those jobs going offshore, there won't be many of those people left. That's the good news.

I have no illusions that I can change your mind, but you should base your opinion of A.S. on his published policy positions and statements instead of hysterical B.S. generated by canidates from both parties.

The guy hasn't had a chance to get his platform out,for God's sake.

I will not support his canidacy if he does not express a palatable philosophy, but I will not reject him absent any FACTS.

I just found out that my brother's mother-in-law is on the ballot for Governor. This has become truly insane.

Hasn't had a chance?

He's only been hounded by the media since he announced. That leaves only three possible conclusions:

1) He doesn't know what his policy will be. Sorry, that only leads to political windsocks who do what polls tell them or tools of their advisors. Both of those are not something I'm looking for in a candidate.

2) He doesn't want to tell us what his policy will be. Coupled with his already demonstrated liberal beliefs on social issues, this is a HUGE RED FLAG.

3) He doesn't care that he doesn't have any policies, and this election is just a huge ego trip for him. Screw that.

President Bush more or less endorsed Schwarzenegger, and that's good enough for me.

LOL! I hope with your name on there that you were trying to be ironic & funny.

You succeeded in either case.

Also, President Bush praised the Supreme Court's decision in Grutter v. Bollinger that allowed racism, er... affirmative action, to continue.

So you're ok with affirmative action as well?
