Police: Brown's BAC almost twice legal limit

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Associated Press

BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- Washington Wizards forward Kwame Brown has been charged with driving under the influence after being stopped while weaving along a highway near his hometown, according to a police report.

Brown

Brown's blood-alcohol content was almost twice the legal limit, and he smelled of alcohol and appeared unsteady on his feet during roadside sobriety tests about 3 a.m. Friday, Glynn County police officer Robert Sasser said in a report obtained Tuesday by The Georgia Times-Union.

Brown, 21, was charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence, having an open container of alcohol and failure to maintain a lane of travel, according to the report. He was released from the Glynn County Detention Center on a $925 bond pending a court date, which has not been set.

The former Glynn Academy star, the No. 1 pick in the 2001 NBA draft out of high school, could not be reached for comment.

Ernie Grunfeld, the Wizards' president of basketball operations, said he had talked to Brown.

"He and his representative are handling the situation. We will have no further comment until the matter is resolved," Grunfeld said.

NBA spokesman Mark Broussard said the league will not decide if Brown will be penalized "until it goes through the court system." NBA players Stephon Marbury and Derrick Coleman served one-game suspensions after pleading no contest to DUI last summer.

Sasser's report said Brown tested positive when given a field alcohol sensor test. He then went to the jail for an Intoxilyzer test, which showed that Brown had a blood-alcohol content of 0.150 percent, Sasser said.

The legal limit in Georgia is 0.08 percent.

In April 2002, Brown was charged with speeding after being clocked driving 120 mph in a 60-mph construction zone on Interstate 16.

Try .15 - 1.5 and he would be embalmed.

It's pretty bad when the sport nets view like CourtTV, and the sports pages read like the police blotter.

Instead of asking him to walk a straight line or touch his nose, they asked him to do an impression of Shaq hitting a free throw. He made the basket. That's how they knew he was drunk

Embalmed, Senator from Massachussets, same difference. At least the stiff won't drive you off a bridge.

Stopping every $100,000 vehicle that is weaving down the road, whether at high speed or not, is clearly racial profiling. The cops knew it was a ball player (of some kind) and was, therefore, black or Hispanic. Where's Kweezi, Jesse or Johnie when a brother needs them?

I was there for Billy Crystal and Bill Cosby, and I think Jay Leno was the other one (I had to sell lemon cups for my fraternity during that one, so I didn't get to see much of it).

I'd like to hear Jesse and the other racial shakedown artists give a speech talking about how this is all an attempt to keep a successful black man down and this is racist police behavior...
