Thanks for asking.

You can read my thoughts in this essay, today. After you read that, see what remains.

You do have a few misstatements and a lacuna or two; maybe we can take that up on that thread, after you read. If you want. (c8

Don't you find it odd that the Liberal Ca press is pushing McClintock...what a bunch of asses the Conservatives are.

RE your post #62 - I think that is a good essay you wrote there, Dan, but you really did nothing in it but convince me that I am right, especially when you wrote the following:

I understand that it is usually better to move the ball successfully one yard towards the goal, than to fail gloriously in going for an impossible touchdown.

"Failing gloriously" is exactly what I think will happen to CA if Arnold wins this -- because it is impossible to get CA out of its mess when the captain of the team has no idea how to get to the goal line, or who to put on the team, or anything at all about football.

McClintock is like the experienced captain who lacks only some name recognition. And, ironically, his problem, in my view, is very much like Gov Bush's problem was when I first starting writing about Gov Bush, as people knew "Jeb" as the son of a president and the brother of a president, but they really did NOT know him as GOVERNOR OF FL. That is one reason why I called my series about him and his record as gov: "The Jeb Bush Noobdy Knows."

If McClintock is the captain who has the years of knowledge, experience, ability, skills, talents, and vision -- if he is -- then, maybe people should learn his name.

Maybe you should be writing an editorial series examining his record up close for FR. And, you can title it "The McClintock Noobdy Knows."

:)

I don't know that the liberal press is pushing him - what I find odd is that the liberal media keeps hounding Bill Simon to pledge to stay in the race. If McClintock, Arnold and Cruz were the only major candidates, I think McClintock could win.

How on Earth do you think McClintock would win? We are really going to lose this...Governor Cruz Bustamante. Get ready for the peso...it's coming your way.

I LOVE John Cole....his cartoons are right on and a refreshing alternative to Powell's pukes in the N & O.

Whattaya think; is that supposed to be Reagan's head on Arnold's body in #5?

I am hoping Simon drops out, but unfortunately he has stated he is for the duration. Simon supporters would vote for McClintock.....and vice versa. So, hopefully, one of these 2 will drop out & pledge support for the other. Together they have about 17% of the vote....possibly more.

I am waiting until after the first debate before I make up my mind.

I don't understand why they can't team up - what would be so horrible about a McClintock/Gov - Simon/Some Other position? Based on what you said, I would guess more voters could rally around that.

It's called a pipe dream, and Cruz Bustamante would just like to thank you for keeping the dream alive.

Welcome to the California recall election where Republicans fought for a recall to replace one idotic Democrat, with an even bigger idiotic Democrat. . . Oh wait maybe it's not the Democrats who are the idiots.

>>> Simon supportsrs would vote for McClintock...and vice versa <<<

Actually, this McClintock supporter would NOT vote for Simon. He's a linguini leader who had his chance.
It's like fingernails on a chalkboard to be lumped into a Simon/McClintock camp.

Bustamante is absolutely loony. McClintock is the best but if he drops out (and throws his support to Arnold), I'd vote for Schwarzenegger to win, not Simon.

I'll try.

For starters: when you say, McClintock is like the experienced captain who lacks only some name recognition, what you are saying is McClintock is like the experienced captain who CANNOT WIN a FIFTY-DAY campaign.

Next, I don't think you did get part of the point of my essay. Schwarzenegger has what he needs to start, which is name recognition. The campaign has only been going a little while; I am not surprised nor dismayed that he hasn't set out positions already. I will be if he doesn't today.

Your slant on his life makes me think your mind isn't really very open. He has actually succeeded at several careers; he has showed great focus and self-discipline. In this, he has it over may "professional" and "experienced" politicians who never had real jobs. Doesn't he also have a Masters in some business area?

Rob Lowe is not an advisor, as you take it. His function is to coordinate getting other celebrities on-board. You have a problem with that? I don't like him either, but Lowe already succeeded in doing that for Arnold with his campaign for the proposition — which, in fact, succeeded.

His picture is not as pitch black as you paint it.

Dan

Well, that is your choice. If Arnold comes out with some actual plans and positions I agree with....I may vote for him too. I think Simon & McClintock are alot alike on most issues. I also think Simon had his chance to win in November so that is why I currently support Tom. Simon was new to politics & had a bad team of people advising him. He seems to be doing better this time around.
