Just remember: Today's respected hymns were once yesterday's "apostate" CCM.... some, noteably Wesley's hymns, to the tunes of old drinking songs.
I agree with much of what is said above--yet God looks to the heart...and Paul said "I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some...." (I Cor. 9:22) There is no direct instruction in scripture about this issue of outward formality, or style of music....its mostly custom and tradition. Jesus warned severely we must not make such law, what God did not.
"I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh."
