California Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante said he would propose to raise taxes by $8 billion if he wins the governor's office in the Oct. 7 recall election, a plan he called ``tough love'' to boost revenue and avoid future deficits.

just because they have licenses doesn't make them eligible to vote...or so I thought.

Here are the requirements to register to vote in California:
1. Valid Driver's License (or State-issued ID card).
2. Fill out the form
3. Put your signature at the bottom attesting to the fact that you're eligible to vote.

To the best of my knowledge the state does not check to see if you're a citizen. Furthermore, Poll Workers are forbidden to ask for identification when a potential voter comes to the polls.

Uh, sorry. The simple truth is that ALL Californians are NOT responsible. What he is proposing is to have those who benifited LEAST from the budget increases shoulder MOST of the burden.

Walter Mondale would be proud. My guess though is that Busta, his honesty notwithstanding, will end up in the same political trash-heap as Walter (w/o the cushy ambassadorship).
