UNITED NATIONS -- U.N. envoy to Iraq, Sergio Vieira de Mello, said protecting the Iraqi people was his main priority when he took the job.

Vieira de Mello, 55, died when a truck drove into the U.N. headquarters in Baghdad laden with explosives. Although he managed to make a phone call from the ruins of the building, he later died.

You're asking liberals at the UN to think...which is wholely inconsistent with their capabilities. They'll try to blame the US for this too. If we hadn't gotten rid of Saddam, if we hadn't dared to get rid of the Taliban, then none of this would happen.

Like Maj Bob said

they had no outside security...they needed a clear zone of 150 meters

the truck was easily able to broach their gates and be detonated at their doorstep

Funny that the UN (who seems to have never met an Islamic terrorist it didnt like)...
would be the target of Saddam's people after all they played ball with the oil for food skim
money for a long time so why attack their allies?....

Be interesting to see how this gets parlayed into something.....to the UNs advantage...

Silly goose, it's the vacation season in the Hamptons, Martha's Vineyard, and the south of France. Don't you know anything? Human shields need rest and relaxation so they can plan on new condemnation campaigns against us evil Americans in the fall.

" Politics should be set aside here; there cannot see any positive spin on such violence against civilians. "

Politics cannot be set aside ........I'm never happy when anyone is hurt or killed . But the truth is the enemy we are dealing with does not give a damn about you your feelings or its victims..the victims are either infedels or martyrs thats how they justify it.

This will require civilized people to, stand up and actually do the dirty work, and that dirty work is to exterminte the vermin. Like it or not these terrorist are nothing but vermin

The article says, "He became senior political adviser to the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon between 1981 and 1983, covering the period when Israel invaded. In the early 1990s, he was in Cambodia and then in disintegrating Yugoslavia. In 1996, he was made assistant high commissioner for refugees. Two years later, he moved to New York to become undersecretary-general for humanitarian affairs soon after Kofi Annan became secretary-general.

He later became a special U.N. envoy in Kosovo following the U.S.-led bombing raids that broke Serbian control of the province in 1999. He gained widespread praise for overseeing East Timor's three-year transition to independence after Indonesia withdrew in 1999.

In September 2002, he was appointed U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights."

He got alot of promotions through the years. I can't imagine the un promoting decent freedom loving people to anything. The only interest the un has shown in freedom, is in promoting their freedom to pick our pockets.

Although the UN may see itself as the protector of Islamofascists, islamofascists see the UN as a pro-homosexual, pro-abortion, pro-population control, pagan instutition.

Yep ...and its the only redeaming thing about the little camel lovers to...

"We should be the ones attacking the UN."

I detest the UN as deeply as the next guy, but Americans are well above stooping to terrorism to make a point with the UN. If we want to hurt them, we should ignore them and not fund their BS projects. If we don't want them in our country, we should tell them to get the hell out.

Murdering the innocent is not our way. With God's help, it never will be our way.

I wouldn't shed a tear if the UN building in NY were "McVeyed."

I am amazed at your promotion of terrorism. You would appear to be just the sort of person with whom we are at war.

He helped establish a democratic and free constitution in East Timor. In fact, I understand that the Bush administration lobbied for Annan to appoint De Mello to Iraq because he was a reasonable guy. And in fact he did work closely with Bremer and the Coalition Provisional Authority on establishing the interim Governing Council.

At first glance I suspected islamotrash to be the perps. But this statement gave me cause to wonder.

Whose cause is served by the removal of a principal heir apparent to Kofis throne?

Arkancide anyone?

No. You are presumptive. I just said I would not care. The UN is a poison to civised people on this planet. 70% of its member states are under dictatorships. Americans die because of the UN. We pay the bills for a bunch of socialists, marxists and communists to convene on our soil. Apparently you support this behavior?

Did we the people
ever vote for the UN
building in New York?

(Did we the people
ever vote for us to join
the UN at all?)

Maybe he was fatally wounded.

I was quite convinced it was just a flesh wound.

How does that justify terrorism and murder? In any event, the United States government lawfully entered into the United Nations Charter.

Osama himself on the UN and other things:

"...This clearly indicates the nature of this war. This war is fundamentally religious. The people of the East are Muslims. They sympathized with Muslims against the people of the West, who are the crusaders.

Those who try to cover this crystal clear fact, which the entire world has admitted, are deceiving the Islamic nation.

They are trying to deflect the attention of the Islamic nation from the truth of this conflict.

This fact is proven in the book of God Almighty and in the teachings of our messenger, may God's peace and blessings be upon him.

Under no circumstances should we forget this enmity between us and the infidels. For, the enmity is based on creed.

We must be loyal to the believers and those who believe that there is no God but Allah.

We should also renounce the atheists and infidels. It suffices me to seek God's help against them.

God says: "Never will the Jews or the Christians be satisfied with thee unless thou follow their form of religion."

It is a question of faith, not a war against terrorism, as Bush and Blair try to depict it

....

Are not our tragedies but caused by the United Nations? Who issued the Partition Resolution on Palestine in 1947 and surrendered the land of Muslims to the Jews? It was the United Nations in its resolution in 1947.

Those who claim that they are the leaders of the Arabs and continue to appeal to the United Nations have disavowed what was revealed to Prophet Muhammad, God's peace and blessings be upon him.

Those who refer things to the international legitimacy have disavowed the legitimacy of the Holy Book and the tradition of Prophet Muhammad, God's peace and blessings be upon him.

This is the United Nations from which we have suffered greatly. Under no circumstances should any Muslim or sane person resort to the United Nations. The United Nations is nothing but a tool of crime.

We are being massacred everyday, while the United Nations continues to sit idly by.

Our brothers in Kashmir have been subjected to the worst forms of torture for over 50 years. They have been massacred, killed, and raped. Their blood has been shed and their houses have been trespassed upon.

Still, the United Nations continues to sit idly by.

Today, and without any evidence, the United Nations passes resolutions supporting unjust and tyrannical America, which oppresses these helpless people who have emerged from a merciless war at the hands of the Soviet Union.

.... We should view events not as separate links, but as links in a long series of conspiracies, a war of annihilation.

This criminal, Kofi Annan, was speaking publicly and putting pressure on the Indonesian government, telling it: You have 24 hours to divide and separate East Timor from Indonesia.

Otherwise, we will be forced to send in military forces to separate it by force.

The crusader Australian forces were on Indonesian shores, and in fact they landed to separate East Timor, which is part of the Islamic world.

Therefore, we should view events not as separate links, but as links in a long series of conspiracies, a war of annihilation in the true sense of the word. ..
