What if practically everyone in your neighborhood was jobless ? That is what deindustrialization means. Not one person let go but hundreds at a time. Far more than any social fabric can absorb.

There is something to this but, I doubt that it is as stark as this equation makes it look. Crime presents its own set of problems, which serves as a deterrent irrespective of whatever comparative opportunties are available.
