The morons over at the Brady campaign are already putting on their dancing shoes preparing to announce how gun control would have prevented this. One has to wonder how it would since the victims were apparently already disarmed.

The good news is that he is okay and was able get a campaign contribution from the gunman before he went nuts.

The bad news is that Tommy doesn't know if the bank will still honor the check.

2 Dead, 2 Injured After Gunfire Erupts In Local Plant

Women Listed In Critical Condition

UPDATED: 12:17 p.m. EDT August 19, 2003

ANDOVER, Ohio -- The shooter and one victim are dead after gunfire erupted at Andover Industries, an auto supplies plant, NewsChannel5 reported. Two other people were Lifeflighted to an area hospital.

Two women from the plant were taken to St. Elizabeth's Health Center in Youngstown. They both sustained multiple gunshot wounds. They are identified at Sue Martin and Joyce Thompson Smith. One women is in surgery and doctors were working on the other patient in the hospital's emergency room, said hospital spokeswoman Patty Rush. They are listed in critical condition.

Police received calls at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. Police are at the scene.

The shooter is identifed as Rick Chattel. A woman who reportedly knew the shooter told NewsChannel5's Adam Shapiro that the man usually kept to himself. He once called himself the "Deer Slayer," she said. The shooter had reportedly worked for the company for about five years.

The close-knit, small community is devestated, NewsChannel5 reported. Ashtabula County Sheriff Bill Johnson held back tears as he tried to inform the media of the events that unfolded this morning.

WFUN Radio told WEWS that the shooter recently was injured on the job. He reported as usual this morning.

Clear Channel Communications Roger McCoy reported that one male worker escaped when the shooter arrived at the engineering department. There were reportedly two women left in the department, the man who escaped said. It's unknown if they were injured.

Businesses in the area are on lockdown.

Family members of the plant workers can go to an area church to find out the status of those at the plant. Employees are being transported there by shuttle. The name of the church is unknown at this time, but it is located about a block from the plant.

The Andover plant is located about 40 miles east of Cleveland in Ashtabula County, with about 400 employees.

The auto supplies company has two plants in Ohio and Pennsylvania and one plant in Michigan.

A big heaping helping of blame needs to go to the brady bunch and especially to Weenie governor Boob Taft and the highway patrol for killing the concealed carry bill this year. Just one armed, law-abiding citizen could have stopped this. Whenever something like this happens, it just drives home the "so what" attitude that a lot of people are beginning to get whenever there's news that a state trooper in Ohio has died on the job. After they started involving themselves in politics, I have lost just about all respect for the ticket-writing donut chokers.

When did they kill the conceal carry? I thought that there was still hope for it in Ohio?

It died in committee mainly because of Gov. Shaft and the State Troopers Association? I have two Trooper friends who I will have to ask about this.

They poison-pilled the deal with a revision that prohibited carrying inside cars unless it was locked up and there was some other BS restriction that went even further if there was a kid in the car. That was the highway patrol's contribution. Another one that Taxt insisted on was allowing businesses to prohibit carrying on their property. He of course would have had the state insurance commission change the rules so that any insurance policy held by business owners would have trippled their premiums if they didn't prohibit CC on their property, so it would effectively mean that any restaraunt, shopping mall, grocery store and carry-out would have been "gun-free" zones...basically everywhere. The only exemption would have been for women (men need not apply) who had a restraining order against a boyfriend/ex-husband and she would have to have a certified copy of the order with her at the time.

We have the same sort of problem with OneTermBob, the guv here in Missouri, he says he opposes CCW on "principle". Whatever the hell that means.
