Anger over cameraman killing
From correspondents in Hebron, West Bank
August 19, 2003
STEPPING on an American flag laid out as a doormat, mourners lashed out at the United States today at the wake for a Reuters cameraman killed by US soldiers in Iraq.
Mazen Dana, a 43-year-old Palestinian, had spent much of his professional life covering another flashpoint, his hometown of Hebron.
On the job, he was shot and beaten several times by Israeli troops, and acknowledged the risks of working in one of the most volatile areas of the West Bank.
Dana, a father of four, was shot and killed by US soldiers yesterday while videotaping near a US-run prison on the outskirts of Baghdad.
The US Army said its soldiers, on two tanks, mistook his camera for a rocket-propelled grenade launcher.

STEPPING on an American flag laid out as a doormat No surprise here. However, you think they might be a little pleased at being the home of the Palistinian nominee to this year's Dawin awards.

STEPPING on an American flag laid out as a doormatIt's the darndest thing, but I've found that my jogging shoes last much longer if I glue pages from the Koran to the soles.

I can't work up much sympathy for the idiot pointing his camera at US troops from enemy positions during combat.

He's not the first journalist killed in this war or other wars and won't be the last. He knew the risks he was taking and he did not have to take the assignment if he didn't want to. As for the flag stepping, has anyone ever seen Americans stepping on flags, such as on Arab or Afgan flags after 9/11? They aren't showing much intelligence or maturity with this behavior.

My sediments exactly.
My first thought upon reading about this story was, exactly where is the line between objective journalist and enemy propagandist, and which side of the line was this guy on?

Strange, the Arab world censors news and imprisons reporters for not towing the Islamic line. They dare to gripe about Western media?
