I-244 has been closed -- explosions throwing debris onto the roadway! The fire is all over!
CBS says Eye on America -- might as well say except flyover Country! ABC and NBC reporting on no problems with the lights coming back on but Canada having problems -- that is really important news!

Becky is this near you? and 2J? 2J was posting right before I saw this thread, but she hasn't gotten back yet.
How close is this to Bixby anyone?
MSNBC just went to it. It now looks like a relatively small fire.... Less than a block in size in what looks like a semi-suburban type area of smaller buildings.

Can anyone who did see this on TV tell us how it looked? I mean did it look like the type of fire that firefighters had a handle on, or did it look like something they would have to let burn out before they could get to it?

FOX and CNN obviously have no camera feed from the area and are dependent on local stations for sharing the story.

The fire is all over! All over as in "everywhere"? - or as in - "Finished".
MSNBC just showed less than 30 seconds of a small, albeit raging fire in a couple structures and surrounding trees.... BIG house-fire size.

The reference I made to Kingman and BLEVEs was one of those bad days that turns into a training film. In 1973, there was a railcar full of liquefied petroleum gases (LPG) on a siding near Kingman Arizona.
The tank somehow caught fire and knocked a couple workers off the top. The fire kept getting more intense and the first responders got way too damn close with the fire hoses...they were spraying the tank down when it blew.
The resulting explosion killed 13 firemen and injured 95 other people. The particular phenom they observed that day was called a 'boiling liquid/expanding vapor explosion or BLEVE.

This fire looks to be springing up through an entire block if not farther than that. It started out on the right side of the TV screen and by the time the National news cut in it was across the entire screen -- you could see the flames leaping in the air from the winds.
They reported that shrapnel like material is being thrown on the Internet which is not right next to the fire when the explosions occur.
According to local media, it is burning houses and small businesses as well.

Neither Fox nor CNN has mentioned this!
Drudge, Fox links - nothing yet.
No reports over Emergency Management channels at this hour. That tells me that the OKEM folks have assets to cover the incident, thus far.
Remember, the first issue is CONTAINMENT - keeping the fire from spreading, and any HazMat problems as well.
First Responders - gotta salute 'em.

The local stations are feeding everyone including the stations in OKC. The national folks are not picking up the feeds. CNN has contracts with our local stations for feed -- they are just not reporting it as it came across right away here in the OKC area -- a Seattle cable station also picked it up.

What are BLEVEs?boiling liquid evaporated vapor explosions. when fire impinges on a tank in an area that is filled with liquid, it takes a very long time to burn through, because the liquid carries away much of the heat. but if it impinges on an area where it is gas on the other side, burnthrough is quick and kaboom -- tremendous force. at a course i took on the subject 25 years ago, there was video that included the camera being knocked out of the hands of the cameraman 1,000 yards away. the fireman on the aerial ladder hitting tank with water, as well as the ladder itself, were gone.

I remember years ago when the Mobil refinery in SoCal started blowing up. Dang, that was scary.
Prayers out to everyone around there.
