I'm curious how the fire started - and no one was injured. Hmmm, maybe cutbacks on safety measures and monitoring?

http://www.sacbee.com/content/news/energy/story/7080113p-8028034c.html

"...Firefighters speculate leaking gas sparked by something as uneventful as a passing automobile could have set off the explosions Friday afternoon, but they may never nail down the real cause, Sacramento City Fire Captain Dave Whitt said Monday.

Triple-digit heat could have baked an overfilled storage cylinder, causing it to leak, according to a consultant who is investigating the explosions. But it's only a theory in what could be a variety of scenarios, said Skip Ferdinand of Skip Ferdinand and Associates, the consultant..."

Not running anything here. Making a suggestion only, but probably should have made it to you via Freep mail. Anyone can add a topic, but as you are the poster I wouldn't presume to do anything other than make a suggestion. Too many times someone will post something in "breaking news" that isn't and it gets deleted by the admin moderator. In this case, and since the national media had picked up on it, breaking news may be appropriate, but it's your decision. Sorry if I stepped on your toes -- didn't mean to.

(BTW, if you don't know the "proper words", you can't add a category and I haven't found a way to access from the current post -- trying to be helpful, not directing.)

They need to hire people just to check local news stations in flyover country. It is pathetic that nobody is hitting on this story.

I know the fire is over, but Bixby is about 20 miles South of there. I am about 2 miles from Bixby.

Technetium isn't a gas. It's a metal. Various inorganic and organic compounds of it are used as shown in that table. Note that almost all are administered I.V. The two forms that are shown as inhalation are not inhaled as a gas but as forced vapor made by putting a solution of the compound in a nebulizer and bubbling air or oxygen through it, creating very small droplets that carry the drug, in aqueous solution or colloid, deep into the alveola of the patient. The substance itself is a solid. So it would be found in a factory making medical solutions, not medical gases.

That leaves us with two. Two isn't "many".

Besides, I haven't looked on this place's web site, but radioactive gases are usually handled by speciality houses, not industrial supply companies. I doubt they sell anything radioactive.
