"Out! Political Opportunity for Dems?"
by JohnHuang2
"One thing I can say for certain," said the President in California, "this was not the work of terrorists," a major blow to Terry McAuliffe whose DNC fax machines were raring' to go with 'WE TOLD YOU SO! BUSH'S WAR IN IRAQ DISTRACTED FROM THE WAR ON AL-QAEDA AND NOW AL-QAEDA HAS STRUCK AGAIN -- AND IT'S ALL BUSH'S FAULT!' bulletins to newsies. A brand new Carville memo, Out Of The Darkness: How Democrats Can Take Political Advantage of This Glorious Opportunity While Shedding Crocodile Tears, set to hit the streets, was promptly recalled.
No word yet on any plans to link the blackout to Bush, Ken Lay, and Enron. Another possible angle: Blaming the blackout on Arnold Schwarzenegger and the California recall effort, say top Democrat officials. Dick Gephardt's office issued a statement, vowing to sign, as president, an Executive Order outlawing all blackouts. Sen. John F. K size="1">erry wasn't mincing words. "If we are going to create electricity in this country, the first thing we have to do is make sure George W. Bush loses his," said Kerry, between bites of Cheese steak with Swiss Cheese on top. While former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean unveils an urban development plan, the "Rev." Al Sharpton calls the blackout an act of racism, women and minorities being the target. Rep. Dennis Kucinich thought NAFTA might be the culprit. Al Gore warned Bush to avoid leaving the "false impression" that Saddam was involved in the blackout, while Sen. Bob Graham said "America is being divided," between electricity 'haves' and electricity 'have nots.' "George Bush lives in an America in which he has promoted a growing [electricity] gap," said Sen. Graham. The former two-term president of Florida reiterated an earlier call that U.S. Governor George W. Bush be impeached. Expect Scott Peterson's lawyer to hop on the bandwagon, calling the blackout the work of satanic cults in brown vans.
Among ordinary New Yorkers, there was rising anger and resentment. Many "complain of disrupted basic services and fear of crime," Reuters reports. "We have gained freedom [since winning independence from England] but we have lost security and basic services," said a street vendor, his cell phone dead as a doorknob.
"'America is a superpower and I can't believe that it cannot change its policy and find quick solutions to our daily problems,'" Reuters quotes a retired teacher saying.
How long will patience last? Not long, say experts at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, which "warns that time is running out for the coalition authority to demonstrate progress on security and services [especially power restoration] -- or lose the cooperation of the" people of New York," the Daily Herald reports.
Uh-oh...not again! I goofed again! The Reuters and Daily Herald reports were about Iraqis -- not New Yorkers! Sheesh. Sorry again, Freepers....
;-)
Anyway, that's... My two cents... "JohnHuang2"
