Despondent Ohio Mother Walks Into Lake With Two Children; She and Younger Child Drown

AKRON, Ohio (AP) - A woman apparently upset over money problems walked into a lake with her daughter and son in tow, drowning herself and the 4-year-old girl, police said Monday. Kenetta Lockhart, 32, of Akron, drove her Jeep up to the Summit Lake on Sunday, parked it and either walked off a boat dock or ramp with her daughter and 8-year-old son, police said. The boy was able to swim to shore.

"Preliminary information indicates that she might have been despondent over some personal and financial problems," said Akron Police Capt. Daniel Zampelli.

The boy was listed in fair condition at Children's Hospital.

Divers pulled Lockhart's body from the lake Sunday night. With nearly a dozen family members watching from the beach early Monday, divers recovered 4-year-old Kayla Langdon's body, said Lt. Sylvia Trundle.

"It was really something to see her little body," Trundle said. "The family was very, very loving and concerned."

Trundle said the bodies were found in an area of the 115-acre lake that was 8 to 10 feet deep.

Police hoped to interview the boy as soon as he was able, Trundle said.

"We'll be meeting with family. Everyone is pretty much in shock right now," she said.

A real tragedy, especially for the little boy. Why is it these people won't leave the kids with a sitter when they decide to go kill themselves?

Twelve family members showed up to watch them fish the mother and little girl out of the water.

Wonder where they were when she was struggling to keep her wits together.

Not making a judgement. Just P.O'd.

Head is still on but I have it bugee-corded pretty well to my shoulders at the moment ;-)

I remember hearing about the Japanese mother, another ultimate tragedy. How children must suffer as their own mothers are murdering them... and yet these women are usually completely out of their minds rationally. It's the Psychological-No-Head Syndrome, but I don't see a vaccine on the horizon :-(

Another victim of George W. Bush's economic failure.

Oh please, get a grip. The victims are the children, or did you just fail to notice? Many people lose their butts during easy times, who's fault is that?

The only relevant fact that he/she could point to would be their hindquarters, as that is where this statement originated.

I think the person was being sarcastic. Actually, they are victims of the Reagan/Bush/Bush/Gingrich economic cartel.

Yeah, with 12 loving and concerned family members on hand to watch the little body being removed from the lake, it kinda makes you wonder about where they were during her money problems.

Why does the situation not fit the circumstances?

Because, it is not what is really happening.

You have seen repeatedly these unexplained 'mother kills children for no reason'.

There was the mother that ran the car with her children in it, into a lake. There was the mother that drowned her children in the bathtub. There have been many, many more. Some of the cases, the media and law enforcement state that the mother had 'mental' problems. Some, there were no prior mental or behavioural problems reported, by LE's, or family.

What is happening here?

Mother's, who have cared for their children , multiple children, for years, suddenly and unexplicably, decide to kill the children, and sometimes themselves.

What you are not being told is that there are instruments (or weapons, if you will) that were developed in the Soviet Union used to control the minds of human beings, from a distance. These instruments were up for grabs when the Soviet Union failed and the Red Mafia / KGB / government officials sold them to whomever paid the highest price.

Is it possible those instruments have been brought here?

Is it possible that they are being tested on innocent women and children, as a way of proving to the new buyer that they are functional?

Part of the answer lies in when did this pattern of Mother/children/murder/suicide start. Where geographically did it happen? Where did it spread to?

Here is the scary part. If these instruments exist, and if they work as described, and if those were 'tests' that we keep reading about, what is the planned USE of the instruments?

Oh please, get a grip....

It was sarcasm -- albeit misplaced, so perhaps you just missed it.

(Rolls eyes)

Crazy mothers have done this forever. There was a case in the 50s where a mother threw her kids off the Crooked River Bridge in Central Oregon.

I think you presume too much. You assume these family members were not supportive of her during her financial crises, and that they were unconcerned prior to this. We don't know that. It's very possible for someone to have deep emotional and mental problems and still put on a normal facade to friends & family. Happens all the time, and unless you actually LIVE with the disturbed person, you may never pick up on the subtle clues that would lead you to feel alarmed.

People DO have problems. MOST folks find a way to work them out, and in day-to-day conversation, would you ever know that someone you knew was capable of doing harm to themselves or someone else? We'd all LIKE to think that we would... but this is not always the case, nor is it realistic.

Let's refrain from judging this family until we know more, and even then, condemnation comes easily. Forgivness is harder to find.
