France is in terminal decline. They cannot even muster the will to fight for France agains the islamic invasion, much less recolonize Africa.
China is the future. In our lifetimes we will see millions of Chinese in Africa.

What France dreams of doing and what France is capable of doing are not necessily in sync. Witness Napolean launching in Russia or the Maginot Line.

A kinda of Chinese version of liebenstraum, eh? But you forget that there are tons of Indians in Africa too. In most cases they ARE the business community, as they're the only ones with the gumption to set up business. Idi Amin (may he burn) kicked them out of Uganda and uganda's economy flopped immediately. The Indians went to the UK (in the 70s) and started businesses which are the backbone of the countries economy now (the Mittal steel factories, Lord Swraay Paul etc.)

Jean Larteguy made essentially the same observations in his novels The Centurions, The Praetorians, and The Bronze Drum. But note the equal betrayal and failure of the people of Rhodesia by the United States during the Carter administration. We're not in a very good position to be waggling our fingers at the French, considering some of our own dereliction.
