I highly doubt some federal employee is going to single you out; if you happen to be paranoid about disclosing who you are, that's your own personal issue. The rest of the world doesn't obsess over such banal occurrences.
I do have a problem with federal employees searching me without a warrant, banning me from flying armed, and general harassment.
Its totally ludicrous to have civilians on planes with guns. Does the phrase EXPLOSIVE DECOMPRESSION have any meaning for you? You have the right to carry arms on the ground, sure. But in a pressure vessel (which is basically what a plane's fuselage is at 30000 feet) you don't have the right to carry a gun. Go endanger yourself on your own time, NOT MINE. If you so desperately need to transport a weapon, check it through the cargo area where it can be rendered inert for the duration of the trip (and you can get it back after the flight's completion).
What does not providing ID have to do with keeping bombs off planes? The two are mutually exclusive and independent of each other.
of course I won't give out my SSN its totally irrelevant to proving my identity
According to whom?
Its totally ludicrous to have civilians on planes with guns.
No it isn't. In fact, folks routinely carried guns on planes before the 70s. Pilots routinely carried them until the 90s. We didn't have any hijacking events like 9/11 when the passengers and pilots were armed.
Does the phrase EXPLOSIVE DECOMPRESSION have any meaning for you?
Sure it does. There have been numerous studies on this, and the bottom line is you can put multiple bullet holes through a fuselage and not cause any major problems. Hell, there was even a plane in Hawaii that had a massive hole ripped in it (in excess of 9' in diameter), and it still landed safely. Stop watching Hollywood and study some real science.
But in a pressure vessel (which is basically what a plane's fuselage is at 30000 feet) you don't have the right to carry a gun.
Hmmmm.. last time I checked the 2nd amendment, it didn't say anything about a 'pressure vessel'.
If you feel so strongly about it, why do you go through the legal process of amending the Bill of Rights, instead of illegally usurping it. Surely if you're correct in your assertions, you can get the 70% or so support required to amend the 2nd amendment to protect "pressure vessels".
Go endanger yourself on your own time, NOT MINE
The only people endangered by Free men carrying guns are tyrants and criminals.
Anyway, since when does MY time and money that I pay for an airline ticket become "YOUR time"?
If you so desperately need to transport a weapon, check it through the cargo area where it can be rendered inert for the duration of the trip (and you can get it back after the flight's completion).
A lot of good that did on 9/11. I'm sure those passengers who owned guns sat there wishing they had brought a gun so they could have checked it in and let it sit in the cargo bay while some turd-world terrorist hijacked their plane.
The truth is that there are literally millions of Americans, including hundreds who post on this website alone, who could have and would have stopped the terrorists on 9/11 had they been flying armed.
It may surprise you to know that planes continuously leak air, which is replaced continuously. Otherwise it would get rather stuffy in a sealed cabin on a multi-hour flight, now wouldn't it?
Air is continually injected into the cabin from compressors that take in outside air and bring it up to cabin pressure. Stale air is let out by pressure regulators. If the cabin pressure is a little too high, they open up more, if it's too low, the valve closes a bit more. If a hole is put in the cabin wall, the air pressure will drop a bit, and the regulator will close
