Florida jobless rate falls to 5.3%
By Rafael Gerena-Morales

Posted August 16 2003
Florida's unemployment rate improved to 5.3 percent in July from a revised 5.4 percent in June, as the Sunshine State added more than 85,000 jobs in the most recent 12-month period, marking 16 consecutive months of growth. And that momentum carried into South Florida, where Palm Beach County posted among the state's strongest job growth.
...In Florida, the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton statistical area, and Orlando, both created more than 17,000 jobs in the most recent 12-month period, leading the state in job creation.
In Palm Beach County, financial, construction and warehouse companies are expanding, said Ken Montgomery, president of the Palm Beach Workforce Alliance, which helps county residents find work. July's job figures are "very encouraging," he said.

BTW, I am not at all convinced that "Arnold the Terminator" is CA's answer to its problems. If I was voting in CA, I would vote for the other GOP candidate, McClintock or whatevber his name is, because he seems more likely and willing to rein in the state's out of control spending. One hundred percent agreement. I was for Arnold, largely because he had made statements in the past which indicated a distinct right lean fiscally, but when he appointed Buffet, I switched to the McClintock camp. It's a shame the Califorclosures couldn't borrow Jeb for a while.

Jeb is doing a great job. No wonder he won re-election in a landslide.
BTTT. :)

An unbiased press would cover this story...
Yeah, where are they on this? I can see a full color cover on the NYT Magazine, with a dozen page article, contrasting Governors Davis and Bush.
But, wait, that might also show that: not everything wrong with these other states is all GW's fault - it might be these states' governors' faults. :)

LOL...I think Gov Bush works very hard and stays busy enough in FL! :)
But, I predict a shift of more voters to McClintock as time goes on in this race. Voting for the Dem CA Lt Gov is a vote to keep the losers in office, while McClintock actually knows something about CA govt, is willing to cut spending -- and seems to offer the hope of a fresh start for CA. Maybe Simon should team up as the McClintock Lt. Gov and thereby merge those supporters into one larger group.

BTW, Arnold the Terminator, and children's advocate, would be a lot smarter to DISTANCE himself from someone like Rob Lowe, who was caught on videotape having sex with underage girls. I know these Hollywood types love to get into politics, but Rob Lowe wouldn't be able to get a job as a FL public school teacher with his background. So, he shouldn't be able to jump into a potential state job someday, just because he and Arnold are Hollywood pals.

but more people in the press should be reporting the positive economic news and job growth that keeps coming out of FL. I agree, summer. Thank you for continuing to keep us informed.
Did you read Ann Coulter's great column about CA being a petri dish for Dem. policies ('the organism died')? I e-mailed the Jeb headlines - asked Ann to please consider doing the counterpart to her CA story about Jeb & Florida - a state where a good man sticking to principles is succeeding.
You know we're not going to get much help from the press. Oh well. We have summer - and Florida Freepers: (^;
Perhaps if Ann heard from a Jeb expert: tom@anncoulter.org

Wow, RC, that is a GREAT suggestion you made to An Coulter. To tell you the truth, she could probably write an entire book on The Tale of Two Governors, Davis & Bush. (She can write the Davis part; but I will write the part about Gov Bush.) You can certainly email and tell her that!!! :)

LOL....well, gitmo, FL has term termits on the gov office, and two terms is it. So, Gov Bush has served as FL gov from 1998-2002, and will continue to serve in his 2nd term, which is from 2002-2006. But, after that, who knows. Though, to tell you the truth, I bet Gov Bush could remain governor of this state and keep winning elections for a VERY long time if there were no term limits.
I'm not sure if he even wants to run for president, but there are plenty of people here on FR who want him to do that in 2008. Thanks for your post. :)

I he ran for President in 2008 he would have my vote!.
I might argue a very few policies with him, but I think he is a great Governor, and I am very happy he is mine.
I am soo glad I did not move to California 15 years ago!

Same here; I almost moved there awhile ago - whew, what a mistake THAT would have been!!! Thanks for your post, sarasmom. ps Sometimes I disgree with Gov Bush too, but, overall, I think he has done a fantastic job.

I agree with another poster that Jeb should be strongly considered in '08. It's tough to match Jeb on the results!
