I have mixed feelings about this whole thing. Twenty three years ago when I was with the Sheriff's Office in New Mexico myself and my partner had 2 12 ga shotguns, 2 AR-15's, and 2 Rem 700 BDLs in .308. Now they were personal weapons, but we qualified with them and kept them in the patrol car. We had everything covered, and if we had a problem, we had a bunch of New Mexico cowboys to help us out with the problem.
Damn, things have changed.

"Damn, things have changed." That's the crux of the whole thing.
There's a different kind of man or woman attracted to police work than used to be the norm.
Unless they can work within the system - which WE have imposed! - they don't want that occupation.
It's not a matter of enforcing the laws so much anymore as it is abiding by departmental policies.

It gives the guys an opportunity to do something that they might not otherwise be able to do with their pistolStatements like this give me the willies ! I am 100% for the LEO's having the ability to take out bad guys with a AR style or bolt gun. I am 101% against LEO's with such a toooood as this turd !!
Stay Safe !

IN 1954 I lived in Farmington, NM. I remember a police car parked in our motel parking lot (Ledbetter's Court on main st). All of us kids gathered around to OO and AH his police radios and other gizmos. When the policeman opened his driver's side door, there strapped to the inside was a rifle scabbard with a 30-30 Winchester in it. For years I thought all police had a rifle in their cars.
I wish I was still in NM instead of this humid tick infested part of the US.

Yep. It used to be that cops were an extension of the people and the people would help in a heartbeat. Now, cops are above the law and no longer an extension but a power over the people.
