Underfunded and overshadowed, conservative state Sen. Tom McClintock has kicked off his gubernatorial campaign with a strategy that tries to turn the huge media focus on Arnold Schwarzenegger to his own advantage appearing on radio and television as the actor's conservative counterpoint.
The good news for the veteran anti-tax crusader from Thousand Oaks is that broadcasters have been eager to give him a platform.
In the first five days after Saturday's candidate-filing deadline, McClintock has appeared about two dozen times on the electronic media, including half a dozen spots on some of the nation's most visible news-talk programs.

I heard McClintock for the first time on Michael Medved's show this week. I was very impressed.

Who's McClintock? Is he a movie star? Oh, never mind then.
To: NormsRevenge
McClintock's team didn't do itself any favors here in the SF Comical....shoulda left it at the first comment and quit trying to be funny.
"If they've called us about getting out, maybe the message got lost in all the other phone calls we're getting," said John Feliz, McClintock's campaign director. "I think we're going to give Arnold a run for his money."
As for the Austrian-born Schwarzenegger's recent absence from the campaign trail, "I hear they're giving him English lessons," Feliz said.
Way to reinforce a several negative negative stereotypes about the GOP.

The conservatives out in California might try making fewer offensive comments like that and maybe they might win an election or two. Why slur somebody like that, it makes all Republicans look like fools.

appearing on radio and television as the actor's conservative counterpoint. How can you counter someone's viewpoint if he doesn't give any views? Arnold doesn't have to give views. Everyone supports him already.

Never underestimate the GOP's ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

The "Wall Street Journal" has just reported that Arnold's chief economic adviser, Warren Buffet, has suggested raising California real estate taxes. That could be the anvil that broke the camel's back for Arnold's candidacy, unless he immediately fires Buffet.
We had a RINO governor here in Tennessee until the 2002 election, when a DemonRAT was elected. That RINO, Don Sundquist, tried to force a state income tax down our throats. We defeated the tax proosal. If Arnold keeps Buffet on his team, that will kill his claim to be a "fiscal conservative."

This guy is easily our best candidate -- well spoken, well informed, proven vote getter, far and away the favorite of California conservatives, and trained for the job. He knows what must be done and is ready to do it -- a claim no one else in the race can make.
This, for my two cents, is the vote for principle. I never consider a principled vote "lost," even if the good guy doesn't win. You still stand for the right. In this case, there's more to it. McClintock has a real chance, once the uproar over a movie star settles down a bit. At least we all should give him a hearing. www.helptom.com will get you started.

I have several relatives in California who are thinking seriously about voting for McClintock.
This mean remark will probably drive them away from McClintock. Some of us have grandparents who speak English with European accent, and we do not think it's funny.

An accent? They're offended over a remark over an accent? Wait a minute. Aren't Republicans and freepers the ones always talking about minorities and liberals whining too much and being too thin skinned?
To: NormsRevenge
Stupid comment, especially coming from someone names Feliz, sheesh, what idiocy.

Tom was on KSFO this morning and said he had received no such calls to get out of the recall from the state GOP leaders or the white house.

If you think that making fun of immigrants' accent is part of the correct job description of a campaign manager, you are certainly welcome to your opinion.
I strongly disagree.
A freeper making fun of an immigrant's accent is much different than a campaign manager doing it.
